Aldi packing rage

*I am just imagining Aldi branching out into home delivery - Aldi style.

Your shopping would be catapulted at your house as the lorry hurtled past at breakneck speed. Eggs sliding down the door, tins bouncing off the cat*

Just saw this comment on an old thread - does anyone know if Aldi have started a home delivery service?

Am asking because I had my first Aldi rage this morning. Went shopping, loaded my goods back in trolley as per protocol and when I got to packing shelf, one shopper had unloaded entire trolley and lined up all the purchases along the shelf so there was no room for anyone else to pack.

Loads of muttering etc and eventually shopper repacked trolley very slowly, 2 items per bag. Fortunately I was able to sort my trolley without using the shelf (less than 20 items) but aibu to think shopper was being selfish by using the whole shelf? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Has anyone ever brazened it out and packed slowly at the till, forcing the cashier to slow down lest the shopping actually falls off the edge?

I fancy doing this one day.

With 20 boxes of eggs. nothing else.

Bet you I could make them slow down

I'm frequently found on the edge of hysteria in lidl screeching "quicker!" at Mr Elbows as I live in fear of scanning beginning before everything is on the belt. Mr Elbows fails to see the doom. Everything just gets chucked in the trolley and packed at the car because I might expire if I tried to pack in the shop! So much saving but bloody hell it's stressful.

i pack at the car unless its raining. I hate using the packing shelf as the radiators are there, ive already got a sweat on by the time the cashier has scanned everything so standing by a lava temperature radiator makes me look like ive just done a gym session.

The fast scanning / minimal chatting is what I LOVE about the Aldi experience. I race the assistant to pack at the til too. I can keep up nicely. I don't want to fuck about it in the supermarket, in / shop / out. I now do most of our whopping at aldi and when I have to shop elsewhere I get the rage from slow, chatty assistants vs self service tills.

As well as whopping, I also do *shopping at aldi Blush

Maggiethemagpie

I took my mum once (an Aldi novice) and she did this. There were genuine looks of horror from people around us as my mum slowly put every item into her shopping bags. I wanted the ground to swallow me up. Someone actually shouted "That's not how it works!" and someone else whispered to me "You wouldn't think they'd allow this type of thing, security should be doing something!"

Never took her again after that and she has happily gone back to Tesco where they allow that sort of filth!

Purplepicnic · 10/10/2016 17:33

Having never been to Aldi, I don't understand ANY of this. Why can't you just pack into bags at the till like other supermarkets?

SpeckledyBanana · 10/10/2016 17:36

I like Aldi. It's worth getting the hang of catching your shopping.

BowieFan · 10/10/2016 17:39

Purplepicnic Because it's so cheap and the quality is excellent!

I know I'm in a cult but I don't care, praise be to Aldi!

rosesandcashmere · 10/10/2016 17:40

Giant bags - in trolley - opened out already - throw that stuff in as it's scanned and go!

BowieFan · 10/10/2016 17:40

As for the packing thing. Well, it's how they do it abroad I think. The idea behind it is that you can get more people through the checkouts because just shoving it all back in the trolley allows people to pack at their own leisure and they won't hold up the queue when doing so.

elodie2000 · 10/10/2016 17:44

Put heavy things on the belt first - tins etc., then fruit & veg, then dairy, then squashable things and finally, eggs and bread.

Open big bags in your trolley and throw them in the bags in the order they are scanned.

All heavy items go in first ( they are first on the belt) and dairy, squashable stuff , bread/ eggs go in the bags last as they are last in the belt! Smile

NotMyMoney · 10/10/2016 18:26

I also pack at the boot, can't wait till they do home deliveries and I can't stand shopping elsewhere in person because it's so slllooooowwww

Notso · 10/10/2016 18:41

Purple it's because the cashiers have to scan a certain number of items in an hour so they can't waste time while you pack.
I only like three Aldi products, nappies, dishwasher tablets (which are just the same as other cheapie brands) and dark chocolate that come in individual bars. The rest of it is crap IMO. I got told off last time I went for putting them in a bag at the till Hmm

Packing in the car is great, until the day the heavens decide to open, just after you've done a massive shop....
