To ask if you've ever been upgraded on a flight?

Read an article about a man that rented some sort of very expensive watch and basically went from being ignored to being revered - I presume a lot of hyperbole was used the article.

But that said I used to fly quite a lot for work and always looked professional and well presented. Nothing out of the ordinary trouser suit sort of thing but I've never been upgraded or offered free champagne in a hotel bar.

Has everyone else basically been flying first class because they had swishy hair? Grin

Yes, last month from
New York to Manchester. With DH and DD too, it was lovely! Such a treat Smile

We were downgraded once, from first to economy flying from the Caribbean to UK. We had been booked on the flight the day before but our connecting flight was late so we missed our transatlantic flight. The flight the next day was fully booked but they put us on standby and said they'd try to get us on if any space. We had to wait until about 20min before takeoff to find out if we had seats or not. Even though we were downgraded, we were the happiest family on that plane.

Yes - if you are a frequent flyer that helps.
And when my child was really unwell.

Many years ago when DH and I were younger and child free flying to St Lucia. It wasn't all that tbh. I think the seats were a bit roomier, we got a free drink and a Quality Street on a tray!

Twice. Once travelling back to NYC. I'd wanted to change my flight tickets go back a day earlier but I had a bargain bucket, totally non flexible flight. Couldn't check in online which I thought was weird. Got to check in and asked if it was a 747 could I please have seats x or y (can't remember exact ones) because they looked the best on seat guru.com. the lovely lady at checkin told me that seat was definitely better than seat x or y. It was 10D. Right at the front of business class. Awesome flat beds and shed loads of champers.

The other time was coming back from Mumbai to London. With my DH. There had been really bad weather and some flights had been cancelled. Couldn't check in online this time either. Got to the airport and it turned we had been upgraded to business again.

Both times I'm pretty sure I'd been upgraded before I even set foot in the airport. No idea why. I was a frequent flyer card holder but it was only a big standard blue card.

I got upgraded once flying back from a work trip to San Diego. I was maybe 5 months pregnant and simply asked if they could upgrade me to business because I'd really appreciate the leg rest (I'm short and they're not properly supported in economy seats). Couldnt drink the wine of course but the food was less boaksome (on the way out economy I'd had to pass on most of it)

Never but my husband was a Virgin gold card holder through all his work flights for a while so I enjoyed the first class lounge with free food and facials as his guest!

My party did with BA on the way to NY when I was a grumpy student. We were checking in and they insisted on taking us aside and looking through our bags - I was with my mum, cousin and little sister. Very unusual. Afterwards they apologised and upgraded us. I like to think it was because of all my eye liner.

Once in business class there was another rather middle class family sitting nearby. The Dad was quite uppity and acting like this was what he was used to and looking around at everyone else.

Turns out lots of people had been upgraded at early check in. He and his family were in economy with us on the return flight.

My mum had asked me to look grumpy on check on the way back too to see if the same thing would happen.

My father has been upgraded on a few flights, he is over 2m and therefore they will move him when they have a vacant seat with more leg from in business or Friday class 😁

SandyY2K · 09/10/2016 19:27

I've been upgraded, but it was because the airline made an error with our flight time and we complained and it was our honeymoon.

Longdistance · 09/10/2016 19:31

Yes, I have. Worked for an airline.

cheat 😳
