...to worry my twin will access my health records and my families records?

Evilstepmum01 · 08/10/2016 20:56

Some of you will know from previous posts that my twin sister is not the nicest person and has never treated me as an equal. I wont go into the back story except to say I went NC two years ago and twin has decided to fall out with our mum and another sister also.
All fine until I find out she's got a job (she's a nurse) at our local health centre. I feel sick because in the past she's divulged confidential info on people we know to me and my mum and to others. I know fine well she will nosey at our health records (my mum and I have had MH issues over the last 2 or 3 years) and I feel very very uncomfortable with her having access to our records. She wont be able to help herself-she's very fixated and obsessive when she hates someone.
So, what do I do? We cant move to a different GP practice as its only a small town with one practice. Is there anything we can do?
To avoid drip-feeding, her husband is a postman and last year we believe he opened our wedding correspondence as it arrived ripped open and then he started asking questions about my secret wedding. (we're not the only person whose mail arrives opened on his round).
Clearly, I'm aware we have absolutely no proof and I'm prepared to be flamed if I'm B U, but I feel sick at the thought of her laughing at my records.

Id you have concerns then you need to speak the the practice and quickly

LagunaBubbles · 08/10/2016 20:59

You need to speak to the Practice Manager

Showgirl38 · 08/10/2016 21:00

If I did that in work I would be fired. It's gross misconduct. Speak to the practice manager ASAP about your concerns. We are only allowed to access people's health records with a valid reason.

Graceflorrick · 08/10/2016 21:00

Your file can be locked - just ask. NHS staff have to enter a series of checks before being able access a patients online data. If she values her job she wouldn't risk it.

Masketti · 08/10/2016 21:00

I'm not an expert but I have a feeling records like yours can be locked by the system so only certain people can access then. Ask the practice manager in confidence.

flanjabelle · 08/10/2016 21:05

Dps mum works in an administration role in the NHS and he had these concerns. He spoke to his health care professionals about it and his file is now locked. You need special permission to access his file. His mother found this out when she tried to snoop and found it all marked confidential and couldn't gain access. Unfortunately she is one that can't see anything wrong with what she is doing. Hmm

Evilstepmum01 · 08/10/2016 21:06

thank you, its helpful to have nurses etc advice. I'm not B U to speak to the practice manager then? I honestly dont want to cause trouble for her or shit-stir, I just want my records confidential as they should be.
Some of my MH issues go back to how she has always treated me.

flanjabelle, thanks thats very helpful! I hope NHS scotland do the same-i know things change between regions. I'm going in monday morning, see if I can get some reassurances.

Definitely can get them locked. My friend's ex works similar and my friend has his locked due to MH concerns such as your own.

JustCallMeKate · 08/10/2016 21:14

I'm in Scotland and had a similar situation with my Dsis. I spoke to the Practice Manager and our records were made unobtainable to her. I moved practice soon afterwards as I didn't want any contact with her at all.

PikachuSayBoo · 08/10/2016 21:17

Medical r cords aside aren't you worried she will end up doing your smear test?

Evilstepmum01 · 08/10/2016 21:18

cheers Justcallmekate-glad its not just me! We cant move practice-wee town and all. I want absolutely NC, especially now.

And while you are at it, report the incidences of opened mail to the post ffice and encourage tour neighbors as well. Seems like that would have had him fired last year, snd maybe they would have moved away or something useful to you like that.

Evilstepmum01 · 08/10/2016 21:21

Pikachu....oh yes! I cant imagine what she'd say about my fanny when I hear the horrid things she says about me!!
I have my favourite smear nurse for such things! I always ask for her!

I called up and reported him, then changed my mind when I realised he could lose his job leaving my niece and nephew in trouble. I really dont want the kids to be affected. My friend has no proof either.

That must be the tiniest town. I grew up in a small one and it still had more than one health centre. Would you be allowed to use the GP at the next town over?

HarryPottersMagicWand · 08/10/2016 21:31

Definitely NBU. Get your records locked.

QueenLizIII · 08/10/2016 21:32

She wouldnt just be fired she could be struck off.

Actually Id want her do it just so I get the best and biggest revenge possible.

EweAreHere · 08/10/2016 21:34

Have them locked asap.

LetsJunglyJumpToIt · 08/10/2016 21:39

I work in a hospital and it's a disciplinary offence to look up family health records. We have to be so careful about what we access.

oleoleoleole · 08/10/2016 21:46

Firstly Contact the GP practice and absolutely insist that she has no access to written or electronic records for you or your family. If they can't guarantee this then you have to change GP. She shouldn't do it and she'd be sacked if she did but will that stop her snooping, probably not.

Secondly contact Royal Mail. Explain your concerns about your mail. Say you are not accusing anyone but as you are NC with Bil can they change his round to exclude your address. Your mail is confidential and is sometimes identifiable as the company sending it have their details on the envelope.

If he looses his job and if she does, it won't be because of what you've said or done, but because they've acted unprofessionally.

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 08/10/2016 21:50

Can easily be a town with only 1 medical practice

QueenLizIII · 08/10/2016 21:54

I feel sick because in the past she's divulged confidential info on people we know to me and my mum and to others.

Actually you should have reported her then.

Evilstepmum01 · 08/10/2016 21:59

Im not after revenge, karma will catch her eventually. I just want confidentiality as is my right. I dont want her laughing at my sons records or judging me or my mum because of our problems.
How do you access patient records? Do you have your own logins and does the system record who accesses which file?
Re postman-hes not on our rounds this is happening in the sorting office (my friends solicitors letters have been opened also). We have no proof tho/

YuckYuckEwwww · 08/10/2016 22:08

In the NHS if you even look up your OWN records in work time it's a disciplinary offense, it's very clear in the contracts.

As well as this, if she does this she would be struck off the register and wouldn't be able to be a nurse

So hopefully, although you say she's nasty, she's hopefully not very VERY stupid, because a nurse would have to be incredibly stupid to do that they would be out on their ear! It's pretty black'n'white!
