He's my fave out of all the contestants ever over any series. I want to be his mum and just give him a hug!

I nearly had a seizure last night when Solasi was using words like disaster... and it looked like Tom might have edged him. I would love him to win, but he always in let down by some error than neither Jane nor Benjamina would make. I'm still confident he could make the final, as Candice always goes overboard with not spectacular results and Andrew is also a bit hit and miss.

COME ON SOLASI!

squoosh · 06/10/2016 12:37

Meh. Andrew is okay I suppose. Pleasant, polite etc. but I can't get excited about him. Although his mousse whatsits did look lovely (even if the ferris wheel was just silly).

I don't think any of this year's contestants are particularly exciting. I think Jane is the most skilled so hopefully she'll win.

Selasi is probably my favourite but I'd imagine he'll be given the shove next week.

squoosh · 06/10/2016 12:39

Candice is annoying me by over-complicating everything. She's not good enough to do what she wants in the allocated time so she tone it down and erase a few elements from the list.

Sammysquiz · 06/10/2016 13:00

Close to where I live there's a group of amateur bakers who make free birthday cakes for children who wouldn't otherwise gave birthday cakes.

What a great idea, I'd love to set something like this up in our area.

dementedma · 06/10/2016 13:03

Love Andrew!

MyBreadIsEggy · 06/10/2016 13:10

Can't put my finger on what t is....but something about Andrew bothers me Hmm
My DH has developed a huuuuge man-crush on Selasi, and spends the whole hour saying things like "Oh he is just so smooth" and "He never flaps over anything does he?", with a look of pure admiration on his face Hmm

hippoherostandinghere · 06/10/2016 13:17

We love Andrew here but then we love it when anyone from NI is on TV. Still in awe of Ian after bin-gate a few years ago.

Roussette · 06/10/2016 13:17

Andrew isn't in Uni!

One of my DD's best friends works with him and he's very well liked in work (and even though he has been asked continually about GBBO, he's not breathed a word!)

squoosh · 06/10/2016 13:18

Ian and Andrew are ying and yang aren't they? Ian was all hipster beard and fiery temper. Andrew is all sweet smiles and sensible jumpers.

5Foot5 · 06/10/2016 13:29

I do wish Candice would stop pouting

We have a theory about that. Have you every noticed, on the odd occasion when she gives a proper smile, that her teeth are really not very good? A bit discoloured and uneven. We wondered if the put was something that she had developed because she is sensitive about her teeth and so tries not to show them so she usually does the pouty smile instead of a proper one.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 06/10/2016 13:39

Andrew has been my favourite from the start. He's really rather lovely! And I like the maths/engineering side to his bakes. The rest are on an even keel with me (now Tom has gone!) bar Candice. I can bear the constant pouting - I shout at the to every time!! Stop it Candice!!!!

LunaLoveg00d · 06/10/2016 13:42

Don't like him AT ALL.

Very smug, everything has a story "oh yes, this is my dad's recipe" or "my granny was a fan of the tropics" and just not a likeable man. Can't stand pouting, sulky Candice either.

Benjamina and Selasi are lovely though - natural and friendly and help each other out when they're stuck.

GameOldBirdz · 06/10/2016 13:42

Andrew's okay but a bit of a wet blanket. I find it quite annoying that everything's an old family recipe, makes me think he grew up in some godforesaken hamlet in the 1630s.

Candice pouting annoys me so much. I also think she's a bit of a sulker. I'm not keen at all.

I'm really glad Tom's gone. He was creepy and reminded me of a 'bloke' who'd have lots of 'mates' with lame nicknames like Spud and Milkman and Smithy.

I'm in love with Selasie. Like, proper in love with him. He looks like a taller of DH so that's allowed.

Benjamina is lovely and I like her quiet competence.

Jane is also lovely though she seems a bit flappy. She also got me stressed last night when she was carrying her mousses with one hand and looking at the camera. Gaaah.

Sonders · 06/10/2016 15:09

This thread reminded me of an article from Vice where they judged all the contestants on appearance only before the show started:
www.vice.com/en_uk/read/judging-the-great-british-bake-off-contestants-based-entirely-on-their-press-shots

For those who don't want to click, this is Andrew's summary:

Andrew is your mum's favourite. Your mum always sits up a bit more rapt when Andrew's on the screen. Your mum always turns the volume up and shushes you whenever he speaks in his soft little voice about icing. God, poor Andrew. He doesn't have a clue the surreal and savoury sexual shapes your mother is contorting him into in her head. By Week 6 she's just softly whispering to herself whenever he's on screen. "Wouldn't he make a lovely woman," she's saying. She's forgotten you're in the room. "Mum, are yo—" "Shh, shh. Shh. Shhhh. Go see what your father's doing." "But dad's here in the room." "Both... leave. Both leave."

Accurate?

StrawberryQuik · 06/10/2016 15:21

Aww I like Andrew, he'd make a good boyfriend I think...I'm married and a few years older but he'd be ideal boyfriend material for any of my mates younger sisters.

I also like Jane, it must be nice to have all your years of hard work in the kitchen acknowledged and praised.

squoosh · 06/10/2016 15:22

I'm pretty sure he's gay.

Littlemisspanda · 06/10/2016 15:29

He s not at uni. He works for Rolls Royce in Derby designing jet engines apparently!

LaurieMarlow · 06/10/2016 15:29

He seems like a sweet lad. Everyone left is v likeable. Though I very much want Candice to win. Or Selasi unlikely.

flippinada · 06/10/2016 15:50

My favourite is Benjamina. I hope she wins. I'm fairly sure that Andrew is a good Friend of Dorothy. That Vice article is a bit try - hard.

Never mind that though. Why has nobody commented on the significance of Tom winning in Bread Week and being booted before the final? It's obviously a portent.

flippinada · 06/10/2016 15:51

Hmm, that was a bit more full stoppy than I intended. Ah well.

Cremolafoam · 06/10/2016 15:56

Andrew's Anglo-NI accent is getting on my nerves ( I am allowed to say that as I come from the same town as him) but my his freehand straight lines are a thing of beauty and I love that he piped his dacquoise properly. ( and I don't say that very often GrinWink)

Maudlinmaud · 06/10/2016 15:56

Im from same country as Andrew and his accent drives me mental. Obvs I know its similar to my own but it grates on me, especially when he said "bananas"

Cremolafoam · 06/10/2016 15:57

Hahaha great minds and cross posts GrinGrinGrin

Maudlinmaud · 06/10/2016 15:58

high fives Foam GrinGrin

squoosh · 06/10/2016 15:58

His accent seems to veer between middle class NI................into something I can't quite identify.
