What to do with around £100k

My mum passed away 12 months ago and in her will she stated she wanted her house selling and then the money splitting equally between her 4 children.

The house sold in August and we've got around £100k each which is a hell of a lot of money.

My husband and I have talked about what to do with the money:

-Use it to buy a bigger more suitable house (we need a bungalow as our daughter is in a wheelchair) and put anything left over into accounts for the children.

-Use it to send our children to private schools

-Use some of it to adapt our current house for our daughter and put the rest into accounts for the children.

Which of these three would you do?

Bigger house or adapt the one you have if you like where you live and your children are doing well where you are. Save/invest the rest for your and your children's futures.

It's not enough to make a difference for private education; it won't go far. But it can be a nice sum to draw upon for special events/university fees in the future.

Bungalow, in good catchment if you can.

Disabled facilities grant of up to £35k for any alterations it might need for your daughter; then top up yourselves for anything over.

However, £100k would get me the same house we have now in the catchment for an ofsted outstanding school. We're about a mile and a half away, in a nice area.

So it really depends on whereabouts in the country you live.

Bigger house and adjustments for your dd.

New adapted house, hands down, over anything else.

Bigger house/improvement to current house.

There was a DIY sos big build on the to last week and the teen age son was in a wheelchair they had all sorts of incredibly thoughtful modifications done to the house.

Is that the one where the son had a lift direct into his bedroom? If so I think they did a great job on the house. So lovely to see him return home after spending all that time in the hospital accommodation.

Maybe don't do anything for a while. If you rush your decision you may regret it. I am sorry you've lost your mum but what better way to honour her than by making your family happy. So unless you love your house and you are already in a good catchment area I would move, definitely. But that's me. I think I would also do something fun, like a holiday.
