To panic and go to GP for this? (Pics)

Woke up this morning to find this horrible rash covering almost both sides of my stomach and some bigger patches on my breasts. It's not itchy but feels scaly and looks horrible. My GP generally takes 2-3 weeks to get an appointment so want to know if anyone has see this before and knows what it is?

To be fair only 2 people have said A&E.

BushExplorer · 03/10/2016 15:36

I didn't suggest a&e as a first response. Op is saying getting a gp appointment will be 3 weeks. If she's concerned about it and it's not disappearing under a glass and can't get a go appointment or attend a drop in centre etc then she'll end up having to go to a&e. The NHS system as it stands doesn't work. Either wait 3 weeks to see gp or a&e if the drop in centre won't see you.

missyB1 · 03/10/2016 15:41

People moan about A&E being clogged up but that's partly because they can't see a GP! As Bushexplorer said the system doesn't work.
OP ring and firmly tell the surgery you want an emergency appt.

AuntDotsie · 03/10/2016 15:41

If I had a rash that didn't fade under a glass plus other innate immune responses, I'd be going to A&E. How is that unreasonable? Better safe than sorry when it comes to meningitis.

DS has had a few viral rashes, but I had no way of knowing that's what they were and he's had emergency GP appointments each time. Nobody ever told me off for taking him in to one of those, why would they? The health professionals are the ones who should be diagnosing these things, not me and Dr Google.

Verbena37 · 03/10/2016 15:42

I would go to the GP.
Just say you have a strange, abnormal for you, rash and you're poorly and need to see someone today.
Please don't feel guilty about going to your GP. They're just trying to get rid of people going for a cold or sore throats etc. For an abnormal rash that doesn't fade when you're feeling poorly, i think it's best to go and get checked out.

Even if it's not serious, best to check if you feel ill. Hopefully it will be a normal viral rash but you pay your taxes....that's what the GP is there for.

Lweji · 03/10/2016 15:43

Do you have cold clammy hands?

It's a sign of meningitis.

Also, can you bend your head all the way down so that your chin touches (or almost touches) your chest?

Lweji · 03/10/2016 15:44

In any case, there's not much point in booking an appointment for 2 weeks from now.
By then it will be over, or you'll be dead.
Be brave and get seen by someone.

HPFA · 03/10/2016 15:49

If you are well enough to go outside I'd also recommend the pharmacist. They are invariably helpful - its an excellent service which I suspect too few people make use of.

Verbena37 · 03/10/2016 15:52

For those suggesting the pharmacist, does the pharmacist make notes for your health records? I am assuming not.
For something such as an adult rash with illness, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the OP making a GP appointment.

For goodness sakes....people go with a splinter in their finger! Not saying they should but the OP could do with being looked at by a GP.

Piscivorus · 03/10/2016 15:53

Surely it is very unlikely for OP to get to the point of sepsis/meningitis that a rash appears yet only have sniffles and still be well enough to ask us on MN? Agree you should ring and ask about cancellation or for telephone call for triage though. If not available, visit a pharmacist

Have you been coughing a lot or vomiting? I had a strange non-blanching rash a while back that was diagnosed as petechiae which is tiny broken blood vessels brought on by straining, coughing, etc

listsandbudgets · 03/10/2016 15:53

OP go to A&E.

I woke up with a similar rash in June. I also had a very bad headache, photophobia and was aching all over.

They couldn't initially tell whether or not it was meningitis and admitted me. I was on an anti-biotic drip for 4 days until they managed a lumber puncture (apparantly my spine is in a difficult place and first two attempts failed) and estabilished I didn't have meningitis.

shazkiwi · 03/10/2016 16:10

I'm going to hazard a guess & say its Scarlet Fever. When dd had it the rash looked like that & felt rough like sandpaper. Her tongue also looked very red.

Hello all! Thank you for the great advice. I went to the pharmacist who thinks it looks like rubella. Now since rubella isn't treated in any certain way I'm not sure if I should make an emergency appointment. The pharmacist seems to think so since I have other symptoms.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 03/10/2016 19:17

You need to insist that your GP on call doc calls you back - best not to go to the surgery as rubella is very contagious.

Poor you Sad Flowers

pudcat · 03/10/2016 19:19

Do not go to drs as it is very contagious and very bad for unvaccinated pregnant women

HavenforHaggis · 03/10/2016 19:21

I know not to go anywhere near pregnant women and that its spread like a cold or flu would. Smile I'm just surprised but glad there's a reason I feel like compete crap!

OP posts:
shazkiwi · 03/10/2016 19:23

I think Rubella is a notifiable disease so your GP would def want to see you to confirm

StewardsEnquiry · 03/10/2016 19:26

Is it not scarlet fever? Strep throat - it causes a 'sandpaper' rash.

HavenforHaggis · 03/10/2016 19:29

I'm defiantly calling her tomorrow to inform her and follow her lead. If I see her she'll defiantly confirm what it is but the pharmacist seemed convinced. I can't say I remember about vaccinations but I do know my mum's opinion on them. 🙄

Wibblewobble100 · 03/10/2016 19:32

Hmmm just to throw another one in could be guttate psoriasis ...
Doubt it's meningococcal because to be frank if it was like that when you woke up you'd be unlikely to be well enough to be mumsnet ting about it 6 hours later!. Emergency GP appointment sounds reasonable.

mintthins · 04/10/2016 12:22

I do hope you are feeling better today OP. Flowers

building2016 · 06/10/2016 14:14

Hope all well, OP.
