Would you judge and/or laugh?

The first time I saw one it was quite unexpected so I must admit I did a double take (it was a daschund in a silver cross - quite the spoilt pooch Grin) Over the years taking my DC for a walk in their pram along the seafront I've seen quite a few dogs in prams/strollers that although I smile at the cuteness (I've yet to see an unhappy dog in a pram they always look pleased as punch Smile) of it I don't laugh as I'm assuming they're old or have mobility problems.

kali110 · 30/09/2016 16:47

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface omg me too.

I wouldn't judge. We had a tiny dog we used to have to carry when it's legs got tired Grin
If the dog has a medical need, little or even if the owner just wants to go out who cares.
If i could take my one cat out with me all the time i probably would, i feel calm when he's with me ( he'd probably rip me to pieces but still) Grin

There is a wheelchair bound man I see quite often near me, who has a staffie
Depending on the weather, the dog is either pulling the chair along like a husky (sunny), hiding under the chair while the man wheels himself (raining), or sat on his lap while the man wheels himself (cold)

I realllly want to offer to make a side car for them, but I'm not sure it is my place to...

Notso · 30/09/2016 16:55

I think it should be more obvious they are for dogs.
One of the parents I know at school has one. I peered in at first thinking there was a baby in and recoiled at the sight of her pug. I then had to pretend I was interested in pets and their ailments until the kids came out.

Spanielcrackers · 30/09/2016 16:58

My dog needs surgery. He's had this surgery once before on a different leg. I vowed I would never put him through it again because he was so depressed. He was on very restricted exercise (5 mins per day, increasing by a minute each week for months).

He's only three. I'm not going to PTS but I am worried about the recovery. I'm worried that if I push him round in a dog pushchair, that people will judge.
I'm wondering if people will be less judgy if I put him in a dog trailer for a bike.

SaucyJack · 30/09/2016 17:05

There's a greyhound round here who wears a onesie when it's cold. A pram seems neither here nor there after that.

FireSquirrel · 30/09/2016 17:05

They're usually used for elderly or disabled dogs, so I wouldn't judge. Using it just as a fashion accessory for a perfectly healthy dog wouldn't be my cup of tea but each to their own, most dogs seem to love riding in them, so why not? :)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/09/2016 17:08

I used to judge massively until I actually met an owner. He was so attached to his wee dog, and it had something horrible wrong with its nerves so back legs didn't work properly.

I still judge dogs.in handbags though

MOIST · 30/09/2016 17:09

Or maybe one of those neat red American wagon things?

Gottagetmoving · 30/09/2016 17:33

If the dog can't walk or is ill, then a buggy is ok. If the owner just wants to push their healthy dog about in a buggy, I think they probably shouldn't have a dog.

LilaTheLion · 30/09/2016 17:37

When the DC had grown out of their buggy I gave it to a lady whose dog had bad hips so he could still have a walk. He was very happy with the solution.

So it doesn't have to be a special dog buggy, just get an old kids one!

MOIST · 30/09/2016 17:40

I think a child one would be the wrong shape. And a carrycot too big and heavy.
I'll measure him and then accost random people with buggies.

LilaTheLion · 30/09/2016 18:09

Do that! 😂

In answer to your original question, I would not judge at all, I'd think you were a lovely kind dog owner.

Wolfiefan · 30/09/2016 18:12

They do come up second hand. Depending on the size of your dog there are fairly cheap ones. I would not use a wagon or a normal pushchair in case dog decided to jump out.
If he's a small breed there are doggy carriers. No not handbags.
And would I judge? Yep. I would judge you to be a lovely dog owner who didn't want their much loved pooch stuck at home and missing out on the sights and smells of a walk. So yes I would judge!!

MOIST · 30/09/2016 18:40

That's nice. Thanks.
He doesn't need one quite yet but I think soon for longer walks or days out.

Soubriquet · 30/09/2016 18:42

Did you see the link I put on page 1?

That isn't such a big price tag and you can zip them in. Though my dog never had it zipped up. He just chilled out

QueenArseClangers · 30/09/2016 18:42

When our hound was a wee puppy she couldn't go out before her inoculations.
Didn't want to leave her when we did the school run so I bunged her in a ring sling Blush
Quite a few people leaned over to see my 'new addition' then recoiled at the sight of a hairy, tiny Jack Russell pup.
Bizarrely enough, it was school photo day when I first did it. We now have an official picture on our wall of 4 DC and a small puppy after the kids asked the photographer if she could be in included! Grin

MOIST · 30/09/2016 18:44

Thanks Sobriquet. I'll have a looksy

We have a rucksack for our dog, we like fell walking and he's old and blind so he goes in the rucksack for a bit to get him over any parts of the walk which are a bit difficult to navigate when you can't see. He loves it, everyone who sees us has a giggle then gives him a fuss

PikachuSayBoo · 30/09/2016 18:51

I would assume the dog was elderly and much loved by its owners who were still taking it out.

MOIST · 30/09/2016 18:53

H is a nob and says he wouldn't use a dog buggy. Git. I shall have to leave him

OP posts:
daisygirlmac · 30/09/2016 18:54

OP my DH said he wouldn't use the rucksack! Funnily enough that's him wearing it in the pic Grin

PikachuSayBoo · 30/09/2016 18:55

I'm quite tempted to buy this so I can take dog in more shops with me. Could go round tesco and people would just thinkmit was a baby in there.

Spanielcrackers who cares if people judge? Ignore them!

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2016 19:07

Its lovely that people use buggies, bike trailers etc to take their infirm dogs out with them. I judge them ... to be loving pet owners. Passed a bloke with a little old terrier type in a front carrier designed for the job, the other day, slightly soppy grins exchanged.

Daisy - wow, that looks like quite a big dog to porter!
