Who the fuck knows but they've sold out in quite a few sizes so they muat be pretty popular!

SaucyJack · 30/09/2016 07:56

Yeah, fair enough- that's a strange thing to plaster on a kid's shoe.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 30/09/2016 07:59

That is really bizarre 😄 Why would anyone wear that phrase, let alone kids!

CoolCarrie · 30/09/2016 08:12

Very odd to have homemade booze emblazoned on kids shoes! Looks like its a prohibition style American print, not really appropriate.

shovetheholly · 30/09/2016 08:23

I wonder if they were manufactured abroad, somewhere where English isn't widely spoken.

When I have been to China, there are lots of backpacks, T-shirts etc that say the weirdest things in English. I think it's just a script that's seen as "cool", and people can't translate the actual words. (Similarly, here, a lot of the T-shirts made by places like Superdry etc. that were popular a few years ago with Chinese/Japanese kanji on them actually said complete nonsense).

BendydickCuminsnatch · 30/09/2016 08:44

Yes but you'd think if the retailer is in the western world they would have caught that before releasing them for sale, if it was just a translation issue. Or the retailer themself could have questioned it!

shovetheholly · 30/09/2016 08:49

They might have only noticed at the last minute - maybe the design just had a blank space for English script - and 'what the helled' it. Grin

A lot of their stuff is made in France.

A relative works for them and told me about these. They are extremely popular. God knows why!

shovetheholly · 30/09/2016 08:51

Bang goes my theory Grin!!

Well, homemade booze is very popular in some parts of the world...

I go to Europe a fair bit and I see t-shirts with all sorts of strange English text across the chest, words that either you wouldn't get away with here or often just nonsense. I think that designers sometimes just find a bit of text and cut some words out without checking what they mean... and I guess that's what happened here. I wouldn't wear a shirt with "Homely Girl" written across the front myself, but I saw quite a few in Normandy summer before last, they were being sold in the local supermarche... Nowadays I never buy anything with text on unless I am absolutely sure what it means myself, not what anyone else tells me it means. Better safe than sorry... :)
