To not want to go on this holiday?

I know I am AIBU and sound like a spoilt bitch but I'm feeling really gutted.

We decided to splash out on a really expensive holiday we can barely afford because we desperately need a break after a very very hard year. It's an all inclusive beach holiday and there's really not much to do except relax by the beach or pool and watersports.

Anyway we are flying out tomorrow and the weather forecast is unseasonably awful :( Cold and raining.

We are all going to be sleeping in one room with the DC, figured in the evening we could sit outside on our balcony and drink wine, in the day play on the beach and go swimming with the kids.

I hate flying and DC gets car sick so the travelling will be awful and stressful. We can't hire a car and go exploring for the same reason. We will be stuck in one room.

I just feel like not going. Help me see the bright side, please?

We're not actually getting to the final destination until Sunday. I looked at a few other forecasts and a few are slightly more optimistic but still not warm and still some rain. We are going for 10 days.

I've calmed down a bit now. I need to try to be more positive. Even a single day of warm sunshine is better than none which is what I'd get at home, and at least there won't be any cleaning or cooking to do. And I can still eat chips and drink gin.

Happypoobum My parents asked me when we were going and where (which actually they already knew as we had mentioned to them) - I never thought they would book the exact same holiday without discussing with us first although became suspicious when they asked a few detailed questions about when were flying, but they live quite near the airport so thought maybe they were going to offer to give us a lift.

As it happens they booked it and didn't even tell me, until I sent them an email with some holiday special offers a little while later!

How I could not "allow" another adult to book the same holiday as me though I'm not sure...

Bastards!! No indeed, other than changing it once booked, you are stuffed there. You'll have to "accidentally" tell them the wrong place or dates next time Grin

I want to know what diet/eating plan you are on that allows chips and gin. I feel this would suit me.....

And thank you everyone for well wishes and general positive vibes. I'll keep you posted.

And you're honestly not a "spoilt bitch" for hoping for nice weather when you have spent money you can't afford on a holiday. We would all feel the same, but I bet you still have a great time.

DP once sulked (and even worse texted his mum to moan) for the entire first day of one of our early holidays, planned by me, to the Amalfi Coast. All because he walked out of the airport and it was chucking it down. I nearly dumped the grumpy git and he's never done it again.

We ended up with half rain, half sun that week and still had a magical time. Good luck!

We want to Austria in July in 2009. As we came in to land the pilot said it was raining and 8 degree. All we heard was my 16 year old daughter screeching "but its my summer holiday" I'm glad to say it improved.
I went to France a coup,e of weeks ago. It had been 31 and sunny and the day after we arrived it became rainy and 19 degrees. Still was really pleasant and we could get out and see the sights as it wasn't too hot.
It may not be as bad.

I was having loads of people round for a BBQ last weekend, and every weather forecast agreed every day in the run up that it was going to rain all day.

The day before I had a mini-breakdown ranting about how I was going to feed and entertain these people if we couldn't do a BBQ and be in the garden. Made a plan B to oven cook everything and shove people in the lounge, but was v grumpy about it.

On the day, the day started sunny, clouded over quickly, pelted it down for 2 hours, and then the sun came out in time for my BBQ, and stayed out. It was a lovely afternoon, and I had completely written it off in advance.

So don't despair! You are bound to get SOME sun and warmth, if not as much as you may have hoped for.

We were in portugal this time last year (Albuferia), the weather forecast didnt look great and i got so stressed when i had to pack wondering how we were gonna entertain the teenage dc every day but it was really hot every day! We got the little train to the old town and spent the day at the beach, spent loads of time chilling by the pool.

We had the best holiday ever! All came home with a lovely tan and feeling really relaxed. You'll be fine! Go and enjoy Smile

If it's Greece you're going to, the weather can be a bit unpredictable in Sept but still very warm and sunny. Im just back from a week there, it was warm with a couple of thunderstorms, one was of biblical proportions and we ended up ankle deep in rain water in a narrow street. It can be interesting to watch, huge bolts of lightening.
An hour later it was sunny.
I prefer it at this time of year as I don't like it too hot.
It can be cool at nights, which is good as you can sleep better.

Optimist3 · 29/09/2016 21:59

Just go and have fun! What ever the weather.

wasonthelist · 29/09/2016 22:09

OP it sounds like one of those accommodation allocated upon arrival deals - in which case parents may not be in the same place?

wasonthelist · 29/09/2016 22:09

Oh, scrap that - I misread a post.

MissMoo22 · 30/09/2016 01:11

Usually when we've been somewhere in Spain/Portugal where there is rain forecast for the day it's more of a case of showers on and off throughout the day. Sometimes the kids didn't even bother getting out of the pool because it would be over as quickly as it started.

I really do hate rain on holidays though, it costs a fortune to get there and the only thing I really want is to relax in the sunshine.
