Worked out who someone was from a thread? Or has anyone ever said to you I know you? I see a lot of NC so I just wondered!

Generally it seems people are not bothered either way. No big dramas from being outed! I always wonder about the ones that turn up on the daily fail!

My mum is on MN. Grin

I've posted in the past about DP's hobby that could "out me" under a different username. Not too far removed from jousting Grin

Hopefully not dogging though

I don't think it's the hobby that is outing so much as the rest of the details in the post, but the mention of the hobby is what removes any doubt iyswim?

RJnomore1 · 29/09/2016 10:56

The hobby is usually cycling. Cos not many Middle Aged men cycle. 😁

RedSauceAndJellyJuice · 29/09/2016 11:04

Which reminds me I must NC soon

Allpilein · 29/09/2016 11:07

Yep. Someone pm'd me asking and I totally denied it. Name change and move on! Smile

bigsnugglebunny · 29/09/2016 11:08

I recognised a family member on here, and sent her a little pm - she was unfazed by it and didn't NC. I'm fairly obvious, use this nickname a lot online, and don't particularly mind if folks know me in real life. I'm quite boring to be honest!

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 29/09/2016 11:18

I don't think I've been outed, but a number of my posts are massively identifying if anyone cared enough to try and sniff me out. I have one IRL friend who knows my username, and some of the women on the Facebook #shitmums group know who I am on here, but I'm not remotely bothered by that - there's nothing I'd post on here that I wouldn't post elsewhere.

brambly · 29/09/2016 11:25

Yes!

Ranted in a comment about an old acquaintance and had not long previously told the story to a friend of mine - who it turns out was reading the thread and recognised both the tale and my 'voice' almost instantly. Grin

Tbf I probably would be easily recognisable to anyone who knows me well in rl but if they know me well enough they know I don't have any back doors and wouldn't find what I post too odd and if they don't know me that well I wouldn't care what they think

PollyHampton · 29/09/2016 12:46

My sister is on here. She doesn't really tell the truth about situations which is a bit odd because she quite often says quite identifying things so I know it's definitely her. She seems to really hate me aswell on here, quite often she will slag off her sister who I know is me but is nice to me in RL!

LemonBreeland · 29/09/2016 12:49

I spotted a Mum at school who had been talking about an issue she had with her baby in the cloakroom, then I read a post on here with the same details. This was about 4 years ago though.

wornoutboots · 29/09/2016 12:56

I don't actually care if I'm outed. If you know me waves

MistressMerryWeather · 29/09/2016 13:00

No, but I told my SIL my username.

mintthins · 29/09/2016 13:00

I recognised a friend, and stupidly (we were both a little tipsy) asked if she'd got a response to a very specific question. Mortified. We both name changed and have never spoken of it again. Blush

PlasticBertrand · 29/09/2016 13:15

I spot my sister on here about every six months.

They're all doggers dodo. Every time I see "my hobby" or "his hobby" I just read "dogging".

Me too. Glad I'm not the only one with a mind like a Welsh railway line!

It is probably jogging or Sunday parks football though.

srslylikeomg · 29/09/2016 13:28

I recognised a close friend on here, completely by accident, and it revealed something about her I am sure she wouldn't want me to know (or she would have told me) I have to be careful not to mention things she brought up on that thread when we are putting the world to rights. It feels like a betrayal and I wish I could un read it tbh

WheresLarry · 29/09/2016 13:32

Yes, I worked out who someone was by pure chance. They did post a lot of identifying information about certain situations.

M0nstersinthecl0set · 29/09/2016 13:32

PollyHampton Shock how do you manage to not deliberately poke? If she was changing situations or bitching I'd find myself accidentally on purpose using phrases she'd typed in conversations.

Reetdiscreet · 29/09/2016 13:33

Not nice is it LivinLa, I felt both violated and robbed of my place to vent, still don't feel properly 'safe' on here now even though I'm much more careful. I still can't understand why he felt the need to snoop like that, he has no interest in MN and was only on here to spy on me which isn't something I ever thought he'd do before it happened. Changed the way I see him if I'm honest.

NameChange30 · 29/09/2016 13:33

Reet Are you still with him? Doesn't sound like a keeper...

M0nstersinthecl0set · 29/09/2016 13:35

LikeDylanInTheMovies why would you describe your mind as narrow gauge? Do you mean single track Wink
