Neighbours leave their dog loose and it shits in all our gardens. What can I do?

My thread title was going to be AIBU to kill neighbours dog?... I don't really want to kill it - just had as much as I can take of treading in dog shit every single week.

Next door but one neighbours have a dog they leave to roam free along the street. The dog freely shits in everyone's drive / garden. Many of us have young kids and several neighbours are elderly. Me And my DC have stood in dog shit in our own drive, it's been traipsed into the house. Little old lady who is their next door neighbour has real trouble bending and routinely finds shit in her garden. On top of this in the middle of our close is a play park which the dog goes and shits in as well.

Neighbours have had written complaints and letters from most of us but it continues.

I imagine the police won't want to know but what can we do? It's getting beyond a joke. I wanted to gather up each dog shit their mutt left and deposit it back on their doorstep but DP thinks this is "immature" and makes me just as bad as them.

Personally I'd like to poison the dog but I guess then I'd end up with some huge fine

get a shovel and launch the dog poo at their house, windows, car. Get creative Grin

Try and get your neighbours to report to the dog warden too. We had a similar situation and it was only after several of us complained that they put up a sign saying that the area was under surveillance and owners of fouling dogs would be fined.

callmeadoctor · 28/09/2016 16:21

Each time the dog is out roaming free, take it to the nearest dogs home, or catch it and ring the dog warden. The Dogs home near us charges £30 each time a dog is reunited with owners!!

takesnoprisoners · 28/09/2016 16:26

Agree with callmeadoctor £100 here. Do it please, you wont have an owner or a dog problem.

hellsbellsmelons · 28/09/2016 16:28

I would putting all the shite on their doorstep.
Why wouldn't you?
It's not childish.

I hate irresponsible dog owners.

Ausernotanumber · 28/09/2016 16:32

We have the same. Shit in the front garden. I'm 99%certwin who it is but I'm usually at work all day.

My dad said buckets of white pepper all over the grass will deter the dog but I don't want to do that so for now I have someone else's dog shiton my front lawn.

LaserShark · 28/09/2016 16:34

Take photos and email to the dog warden. If you build up evidence of the dog being a nuisance, they can take action.

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/09/2016 17:04

Speak to the dog warden and also the local authority, probably Environmental Health dept.

Local authorities have a range of options now to deal with irresponsible owners - they can force the owner to do a variety of things such as keep the dog on a lead, stop it wandering, fine for not doing that, take it to training classes, keep it muzzled in public, even rehome it or have it put down..

The options should be applied as necessary of course so here a first step would be telling them they need to keep the dog in, and possibly fining them for the fouling - the next step would be making that a legal requirement for them and a fine if the dog is found wandering, and so on.

SheldonsSpot · 28/09/2016 17:08

I can honestly say that having tried all of the steps you already have, I would gather it up and post it through their letterbox, unbagged.

Every.Single.Time.

paxillin · 28/09/2016 17:12

Yes, bring it back to theirs. Carry it there with a shovel, then smash it on the ground. Make it more work for them to remove than it would be to do it properly.

abbsismyhero · 28/09/2016 17:13

Cover your lawn with soot its good for the grass and a bastard to get out of dog fur/carpets son dogs like to roll in it too

And yes its harmless
