And animals tortured on FB?

It smacks of gratuitous attention seeking. The footage should be given to the police. Not stuck in my news feed where I see it whether I want to or not.

I agree with you OP and I have blocked a lot of images (usually of the animal abuse strain) because they upset me so much .

I think I know the one you are talking about of the young girl in bushes being attaked by some no mark.
Feckin , that is good to know . Ill go see if I can stop them auto playing.

FoxesOnSocks · 28/09/2016 07:06

It's on my news feed playing without me having to click on it. That's how Facebook is now.

Setting > Videos and Photos > Auto Play > Never Auton Play Videos

I also block all pages that post these things - so you don't necessarily block the friend but the page/site they share

brokenbone · 28/09/2016 07:09

Go in to your settings and select photos and videos and select auto play and change it to never autoplay.

scrivette · 28/09/2016 07:09

Thanks Foxes I have amended mine now.

Knackeredotcom · 28/09/2016 07:14

Thanks for that tip broken bones- just turned mine off too!

A few have appeared on my time line over the last 12 months and they can be really upsetting- one this morning actually!

None of my friends have ever posted these videos, but a couple have commented their disgust on them and; of course, as soon as they comment on the video of appears on the time line Sad

Isn't it just the social media equivalent of Crimewatch?

I see the value of our local FB group posting local crime pictures as it has helped raise public vigilance, police activity and in one instance led to prosecution of a culprit identified through the post.

I guess its a question of whether there is a wider benefit in making something public that would otherwise be hidden. Back in the '70s there was less opportunity for voyeurism but it was also much easier to hide bad behaviour.

Champagneformyrealfriends · 28/09/2016 09:02

Just turned mine to never auto play-thanks for the tip!

Lottielou272 · 28/09/2016 09:03

How on earth can it be compared with crime watch? I doubt the videos even show which areas these take place.

My 17 year old nephew shared an absolutely horrific one of a kitten being set on fire. It still haunts me. It was being shared under the guise of Let's Find These Bastards. Just awful.

Lottielou272 · 28/09/2016 09:05

Thank you I have changed my settings.

They are trying to identify the perps through FB which is where the crime watch comment has come from I think

ThelmaandLou · 28/09/2016 09:11

I have to say that I sort of understand it and I have seen the awful one of the boy being punched twice.

The most these kids will get is a slap on the wrist from the authorities. These kids have been publically shamed. Their names are all over the comments. This will follow them and their families for years. Everyone in their school, estate will have seen in. I come from a rough estate and a one on one fight is nothing, but they will find themselves totally ostracised for that. Older kids, teenagers, adults won't let them get away with it. When you are from that kind of background street justice is king.

Those boys will be scared, shamed and frankly fucked for that behaviour.

ThelmaandLou · 28/09/2016 09:13

And I imagine the boy in question will be more pleased with that than he would any real justice handed out by the court.
