AIBU to not want my 8 year old to grow up too quickly? Confused

She came home yesterday (having friendship problems anyway so I am more sensitive to these things atm) saying that she wasn't "cool" and the cool girls all know about pop music and she doesn't.

I've never stopped her from listening to anything, but we have radio 2, 3 or classic fm on as a default. In the car they all (she's the eldest of 3) like either story cds or musicals,

I don't remember getting into pop music until I was at least 12, but I had quite old fashioned parents. TBH I've never really paid much attention to the latest trends as I'm a classical musician, so the kids have been more exposed to that.

So, if I am BU, which I probably am, what's the best way to give an 8 year old a crash course in the latest music and what should I get her listening to? Radio 1?

Help an old fuddy duddy please....

Likewise, harrypotter. Acdc/gnr not really 6yo friendly.... Thank heavens she prefers Madonna and Taylor Swift

Have DS 8 - we listen to Heart, Radio 2 Chris Evans and Simon Mayo, Classic Fm , Radio 4 and local radio - all whilst on school run or weekend journeys, also have on background in kitchen when cooking.

We also have CD of the week - I have varied taste and after he asked who Tom Jones was (my parents era) after watching the voice I switch CDS in car every week and we have something different.

So far we have done COUNTRY - he loves Islands in the Stream ! WHAM, Bryan Adams, VAn Halen, Classic FM cinema classics, The Eagles, sounds of the 60's, Madonna, Bruan Ferry, Bee Gees, Abba, Taylor Swift, One Direction, The Searchers, Billy Joel, Prince, M Jackson, The Osmonds - list goes on - Bowie, Meatloaf , Katy Perry and at the moment we are having a Will Young week because he loved hi. On strictly.

Never been into pop. Indie, Rock, pop punk 60s, 70s and 80s are my kind of thing. The first 3 are my own tastes which I developed as a teenager & the second 3 are what my mum used to play all he time at home and I grew up with.

I still play them all around the house now DC are 1 and 6 months. Obviously I ensure the lyrics are suitable.

Retune your radio to local heart or something. Let it go on around her. Radio edition music doesn't have the 'rude bits'.
You may not of stopped her from listening to anything but your choices of music around her aren't current to what her peers are hearing, she can't interact without it. It's not uncool or growing up too soon.
She'll find her own taste, if you let her listen to a broader mix.
My 80s Abba pop interest is lost on a ds17 death metal enthusiast.

I always use to let my DD listen to pop music at that age (admittedly that was almost 10 years ago so a lots changed), she would buy the NOW CDs with her pocket money - Miley Cyrus (back in her Hannah Montana days!), Usher, Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga were all popular on her MP3 player.

Obviously I did put my foot down if I saw songs that were inappropriate.
