sick of incredibly poor mobile reception

At home. Up until earlier this year a small amount of signal went in and out, enough that you'd get or send texts within ten mins or so of the button being pressed.
Now to send or received a text I have to restart my phone and stand it up against the kitchen window. Fine to send them but annoying when you don't receive texts people sent hours ago.
If I want to make a call I have to go into the next village, a 15 min walk away.
We've asked visitors and no one's reception seems much better.
Are there any companies that specialise in poor signal areas? It causd a load of hassle today as the school were trying to get in touch with me and I am working from home.

I share your misery. The classic of this summer was receiving a message asking if DS could play a match after the match had started (36 hours after message actually sent).

I'm with Vodafone, DS with Tesco and DH with EE. DH's works ok as he has booster given by work. Vodafone & Tesco mean having a fully charged phone, standing on upstairs landing and hoping not low cloud!

Like you I have a Samsung and at home use Messenger app which legitimately uses the WiFi. Only problem is our broadband is still copper cables aaagh.

StealthPolarBear · 26/09/2016 16:44

Don't think it's worked, just sent a text, still going round and round

Which Samsung do you have?

dementedpixie · 26/09/2016 16:48

Has it brought the symbol up? Did it say wifi calling?

Purplehonesty · 26/09/2016 16:50

We have the Vodafone sure signal box and it changed our lives!

Up to 5 phones can go on it and I think it was £50

We live in deepest darkest Scotland so we're like you, had to climb the hill behind me to get signal before we got the box.

StealthPolarBear · 26/09/2016 16:51

S3 I think. That's another frustration, how do I find out

What I've turned on is called "smart network switch". No symbol.

That's not it

StealthPolarBear · 26/09/2016 16:57

I don't think I have that setting then

The problem is your phone , you need an s6 or s5

AndNowItsSeven · 26/09/2016 16:59

WiFi Calling is available on all versions of the iPhone 5c and later models of the iPhone, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Note 7, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Lumia 550, 650, 950, 950XL, HTC 10 and Blackberry Priv.

AndNowItsSeven · 26/09/2016 16:59

The s6 should also be fine.

Three have an app for wifi texts and calls. Worked great for texts, absolutely rubbish for calls.

Just for interest, dd has a very very basic LG tesco network phone and gets good signal. I have a fairly cheap LG one and get reasonable signal. Dh has a samsung and had to take his back it was so rubbish.

No idea how that works, but the cheaper the phone the better the signal!

Muppeeeto · 26/09/2016 17:09

Ofcom have a signal coverage map. However it says we get good signal and we don't.

StealthPolarBear · 26/09/2016 17:18

Aargh the flipping wifi just died. I'm off to a log cabin with a book.
so I don't have it :( just changed my message app to messenger but apparently it still can't send because if the lack of mobile signal...thought that was the while point!!
