To not know how old my DD is??

I obviously know when she was born but people have counted her 'months' in different ways I don't know which way is correct and it's driving me crazy!

She was born on 31.05.16 (which was a Tuesday if that is at all important)
So that means she will be exactly 17 weeks old tomorrow. If anyone asks how old she is I still say xx weeks because I know the GP and HV still use weeks up until she is a year but all the milestone charts seem to be in 'months' and I'm trying to work out if she is on target with development.

There seems to be 2 ways that people have been working out her age.

  1. by the number of weeks (eg. 1 month = 4 weeks) so at 16 weeks that would make her 4months old regardless of the date that day falls on.

  2. by the date in the calender month (so every 31st of the month she is a month older) which would mean by that method she isn't 4 months until 30th Sept/1st Oct.

Which method is correct??

I have asked several mum friends in RL but they've each said different things! I am the only one to be baffled by this?? AIBU to feel like a total idiot?!

I had (have) a competitive friend whose DD is 3 months older than my DS. Unsurprisingly her DD reached many milestones earlier (but never had as much hair which frustrated her immensely - apparently I should have been concerned it would tax his strength. Oh and sleep, DS was great at sleeping but apparently poor sleep is a sign of high intelligence).

So I had a weak slow child who never got there first. Luckily I perfected the art of smile and nod Grin

I have no idea really of the milestones for a 4 months old either! I just wanted to check it out incase there are any! Would also give me something more to say to Dfriend when she goes on and on about them with her DD. I tend to just nod smile and make the right noises. It only really came up this morning because i mentioned that my DD had started rolling up onto her side in the last few days not rolling over as such but i'd have to start keeping a much closer eye on her etc and Dfriend starts with the whole - oh my DD has been rolling for ages. Are you worried that DD is behind? (The answer is No not worried at all BTW!) To be honest I find the whole competition thing amusing most of the time and absolutely have no stress about my DD purely curious after today so was trying to look it up and then it reminded me that I'm an idiot for not knowing how old she is! So I thought Mumsnet to the rescue!

I am 2468 weeks old. I wonder what milestone is due at 2500 months. Maybe something else stops working or falls off?

Say nothing.
It is only a competition if you enter it.
Don't ever enter into comparisons of your baby's development with anyone.

If you use this calculator, you can work it out in seconds!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/09/2016 12:12

I'd just say she's 4 months. Why do people always want the ins and outs of a ducks arse when it comes to babies' ages and weight.
For the record though. She's 17 weeks old.

katemess12 · 27/09/2016 12:15

My DD was born 30.07.16 and I'm saying she'll be 2 months on 30 September. Just the easiest way to do it, IMO. Grin

glueandstick · 27/09/2016 17:01

Someone at a baby group when asked how old their kid was said '37 and a half weeks'

Everyone was a little 'umm ok. What's that in real money?'

JeSuisUnChocoholic · 27/09/2016 18:21

Ignore all the charts - every child is different and grows in their own way. If there is something wrong your GP ought to have told you by now.

There was a thread once about a 48 month old Shock it made me laugh until I cried

Soubriquet · 27/09/2016 18:56

I think the entire thread was "48 months?! Why don't you just say he is 2?" instead of bracing the actual question itself. The question itself was sad to though if I remember correctly. Wasn't it about how she wouldn't praise his "crap@ drawings?

MrsHathaway · 27/09/2016 19:26

Four. Not two.

I vaguely remember that. I think I refrained from jumping on to the bandwagon though Grin
