Just moved into a new house and neighbour said to keep the noise down!

My sister moved into a new house over the weekend and we were helping. We did the big furniture in a van and several trips by car as they were moving within the local area.

Anyway around 4 in the afternoon the neighbour knocked on the door and said 'can you keep the banging down'. There is a moving van parked outside, we are moving beds and wardrobes upstairs, manoeuvring sofas etc. Of course there's going to be banging. AIBU to think this neighbour is a nutter.

Yanbu. Neighbour is. What time was it?

Err 4pm.

4 in the afternoon is a good time to make a noise.

Fucking nutter. 'Well, we should be done moving in soon enough.'

Oh sorry. Tired.

Response to that is "sure, no problem" carry on as you were. Repeat as necessary.

"Well if you help us it will all be done much sooner. Thanks"

YANBU. I hate noise, but at 4pm on moving day they are very unreasonable to be moaning about it. Banging and moving furniture at 4pm is perfectly ordinary noise and part of everyday life.

I'd have responded 'well we will pause for now maybe you can make us a cuppa you know cos we're in the middle of MOVING IN '

The doors slammed shut a few times too because of the wind and she also mentioned that. I am too nonconfrontaional and just said 'sorry', but what I was thinking is that it is the middle of the day, and if you don't like noise, move to an island in the Hebredes or something. Not in a built up area by a main road.

Was the house lying empty for a while before your sister moved in?

moving in day should involve noise, your furniture van taking up the entire road and constant to-and-fro.
Neighbours should bring cakes and tea, not 'tude.

Yes. I had this from a neighbour. I didn't deal with it too well. I used to worry so much about upsetting her. These type find fault no matter what. So u necessary.

I had a petty, self-important neighbour once, who complained about every noise in person and banged on the floor regularly (we were underneath him in a flat).

Eventually after yet another doorstep complaint about the radio on at 4pm (not loud just normal background) I told him, "I'm not interested in your complaints any more. Go and call the police. Go and call the police and tell them your downstairs neighbour has the radio on in the background at four o'clock in the afternoon. Waste their time instead of wasting mine and see where it gets you. Do it now."

We moved out a matter of weeks later, but I tell you...we never heard another peep from the miserable bastard again.

I let these people wreck my life at home. I had a new kitchen and bathroom fitted and that made me 'better than they'. I woukd put plants in my garden and same response Just because they didn't they he'd me.
