To expect a hotel room to be quiet?

Ok so I'm in a hotel, I'm knackered after a 7 hour drive to get here, 7 hour drive back home in the morning. I'm up to visit my daughter at uni and bring the stuff we couldn't fit in the car when she moved in. Wedding party going on at the hotel, music so loud in my room the walls are bloody shaking. I'm told by reception manager that they often have functions on (like that makes it ok?!). I'm so tired I could cry. I won't though coz I try not to be a drama llama. It's going on until at least 1am. They gave me free wine and Pringles so that's good but aibu to expect to be able to sleep in a room I have paid for with the sole purpose of exclusively sleeping in? They just played the Macarena and the Time Warp ffs. I considered throwing myself out the window but it only opens six inches and I'm not thin. Gah!

Stayed at a hotel once that had a works conference do the next day when I was at a training seminar at a different (more expensive) hotel. All the works lot 'had a great night' - a few more than others. My room was below the smoking canopy. Rang down at half hour intervals to 3:30am thanks to one bloke yelling 'jayho' song all night. Spoke to the Duty Manager the next day. Instantly refunded my bill and added it to the works one instead!

It's not rocket science - hotel guests are likely to want to sleep and being unable to could completely ruin things for them.

How did you go? Did they give you a refund?

YANBU.

We went to a wedding with the dc last month and were staying in the same hotel.

We left the party at about 11pm and went up to the room...we just as well have still been in the same room for all the noise difference, it was bloody bouncing. I couldn't believe how obviously un-sound-proofed the rooms actually were (and it was a very, very naice hotel).

I was highly irritated even though i'd been to the actual wedding Grin If we'd just been 'regular' guests though i'd have been furious and definitely complained.

OP my standing advice is always go to the Students Union or other event if invited! Once your DD is out of halls, stay in the student house. Loads of fun (if invited is key here - also you must not judge but slip into student ways of too much alcohol and not enough sleep or housework). Sounds pants at the hotel. Did you get a refund?

I've had this happen at Christmas time, once till 2am. Hotel manager was shit, he said 'what do you expect, it's a Christmas party?' and refused to refund my stay. Complained to head office and got a free night's stay in a suite Smile

Stayed at one hotel and in the room above someone was opening and closing a drawer what seemed every 2 minutes all thro' the night. No idea what they had in there or what they were putting in but it went on all night. Another time I stayed at a v. expensive London hotel 'The Capital' and was in a room next to the lift motor and brakes. Winch/brake/idle/brakes off/winch (up or down)/brake on etc. this of course went quieter in the middle of the night but started again in the early hours of morning.

When my husband stayed at hotel where there was a loud wedding going on he basically gate crashed the evening do, danced with the bride and had a jolly old time! He took the view if you can't beat them join them. In fact they called him over to join their breakfast table in the morning!
