To Show Off A Little Bit?

My DS is 14 and has had a stammer for all his life. It varies in severity depending on tiredness, emotion, hormones, etc but he has certain "tells" and it's pretty much 50-75% of the time gently noticeable.

He's worked really hard to not be encumbered by it and not let it get him down and he says it's just him and if people don't like it or take the mick, then he's not interested.

Roll on to yesterday when he volunteered to be part of school's Open Evening and he ended up talking to all the parents and governors of the school, answering questions, and leading the team of two manning the particular subject desk (his mate who was with him has no speech impediment, just gets really shy)

I'm properly proud that he's confident enough to hold his own, and he was tickled that it was him holding the fort Grin

AIBU to lavish him with pizza and treats for tea in light of a job well done? (I'm NBU, I just feel I should be rounding this off nicely)

OP posts:

Go the Pizza!

That is lovely. :)

SoftBlocks · 23/09/2016 15:04

YANBU I'm really pleased for both of you! Brilliant!

Ifailed · 23/09/2016 15:05

It's great that you DS has overcome this, and I'm sure you helped him a lot, but why would you want to show off about it?

PalcumTowder · 23/09/2016 15:08

Because she's proud of him, obviously Hmm

Well done to your DS!

Ifailed · 23/09/2016 15:13

Because she's proud of him

I'm sure, but she didn't post that, she posted

"AIBU To Show Off A Little Bit?"

She's showing off, and asked the question.

PalcumTowder · 23/09/2016 15:15

But you "show (something) off" when you're proud of it. I don't really understand what you're picking at?

Cakescakescakes · 23/09/2016 15:15

Ifailed aren't you a delight?

ZippyNeedsFeeding · 23/09/2016 15:16

Don't we all love to show off a tiny bit when our kids do well? What's the harm, so long as it doesn't become really tiresome bragging?
Also, yes to pizza and treats, no question about it!

notanetter · 23/09/2016 15:17

Ignore the pettiness, OP - thank you for sharing, that's really made me smile this afternoon Smile

DoItTooJulia · 23/09/2016 15:17

Aaah! What a fantastic young man! That boy deserves pizza and you are allowed to show off!

Love a feel good thread! Yay!

MozarellaCheese · 23/09/2016 15:17

ifailed you sound like Leonard's mum in the Big Bang theory when Leonard comments to her;

L - 'You must be very proud'.
L's M: 'Why? It's not my achievement'.

[I really need to stop watching Big Bang... i know it all off by heart!]

Let the OP express her happiness any way she wants!

ayeokthen · 23/09/2016 15:18

OP, yanbu to show off, I'd want to shout it from the rooftops. Enjoy your pizza and your son's massive achievement!

Queenbean · 23/09/2016 15:20

Wonderful! Yes, lavish him :)

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/09/2016 15:24

Well done to your DS, have a great evening. Smile

(It's not pizza but have some Chocolate ).

acsec · 23/09/2016 15:31

Fantastic! Excellent work SheDone's DS! Definitely lavish him with pizza and treats (can I come, there's nothing for dinner here)!

JellyBelli · 23/09/2016 15:35

Thats a genuine achievement, and no YANBU. He's a Star

morningtoncrescent62 · 23/09/2016 15:36

YADNBU. You must be feeling fantastic, and I hope your DS is well and truly proud of himself. Enjoy the moment.

2kids2dogsnosense · 23/09/2016 15:37

You are right to be proud of him! People who do not stammer have no idea how incapacitating it can be, and how often a stammer brings out the worst in bullies and idiots. It can be had work doing anything that draws attention to yourself.

Both he and his friend have done amazingly well! (Chronic shyness is a bugger, too).

DoinItFine · 23/09/2016 15:37

Aw, what a lovely story.

Good for him. Really well done. Delighted for him. He should be so proud. And so should you.

Thanks for sharing :)

And YANBU to spoil him rotten.

W

HeyNannyNanny · 23/09/2016 15:38

That's so wonderful to hear Smile

DoubleCarrick · 23/09/2016 15:41

What a strong, determined young man you are raising. You ought to be proud of him but also be proud of yourself

So lovely to hear

JenLindleyShitMom · 23/09/2016 15:41

Oh wow! Well done to him! My son (7) has a speech impediment and some children have started bullying him and taking the mick because of it (well not because of it, because they are bullies but they are using his speech as a weapon) Angry I am so pleased to hear your son has managed to be at peace with it and not let it hold him back. He obviously has a great team behind him at home Wink

AgathaF · 23/09/2016 15:45

Well done him. And to you too, for being a positive and supportive mum.

Of course pizza and treats.

Yum.

Woobeedoo · 23/09/2016 15:50

Totally not unreasonable to be hugely proud and treat your son, heck, I'm beaming just reading your post!

Kindlygreen · 23/09/2016 15:54

What a lovely story for a Friday. Enjoy your pizza!
