To ask - what have you unbelievably got away with?

Normally I get away with nothing, however there was one day not so long ago I had to get something from the server room at work and I accidentally knocked over some strange thing with lights on. It looked like Johnny Five's head and was rather warm. I put it all back and crept but when I got back to my desk they said everyone in the building had lost their connection to the system!! I kept nervously silent while the IT bloke spent the entire morning trying to sort it out, listening to my colleagues moaning about not being able to work. To this day they don't know it was me!

So has anyone else got something they secretly got away with and can't quite believe it?!

whenitsmyturn - that reminded me of an incident that happened a few years ago,not to me but to my DD,who was 19 at the time. She had gone on a date with a bloke that she had met on an internet dating site. She had met up with him in a pub,and I had asked her to text me,to let me know she was ok,he had turned up etc. She composed a quick text to send me while he was at the bar getting drinks, saying 'OMG he has got REALLY curly hair' (she disliked curly hair on men) and that 'he was wearing really tight white trousers! Not at all like I expected him to be!'. Only she mistakenly sent it to him instead of me! Thankfully she realised her massive error in a matter of seconds, and even more thankfully,he had left his mobile phone sitting on the table. So she grabbed it,quickly found the message and deleted it in the nick of time, before he came back from the bar with the drinks. How I laughed when she told me this later.

Remembered one that happened to me years ago. I had ordered a 'media work station,(basically a fancy desk) from Argos. Was told it would be delivered on Friday morning, between 8am and 1pm. Booked the morning off work and awaited it's arrival. Nothing. Tried calling Argos, but got continually engaged or,when it DID ring,no answer. This went on all afternoon, until at 6pm,I got a recorded message saying store was now closed, and to call back when they were open blah blah blah. Fuming because I had taken time off work for nothing and wasting half a day,I tried calling again in the morning, starting at 9am. Finally got through after about my 500th attempt. After calling up my details on the computer, the woman on the phone rather rudely told me that it had not been scheduled for delivery on the Friday morning but on that day,Saturday afternoon. I had the form that I had been given in the shop at the time of ordering in front of me,and it quite clearly stated Friday 14th September,8am-1pm. She wasn't having any of it and continued to argue, eventually saying 'It will be delivered this afternoon between 1 and 6,take it or leave it' and put the phone down on me. To say I was fuming was an understatement, and vowed to phone their head office first thing on Monday and make a complaint. Anyway,it arrived at about 2.30. I then went out shopping, arriving back home at 6. There was a large package on the doorstep. Another work station. Under normal circumstances,I would have contacted them and asked them to collect it,but after the way they had behaved,I felt it was my compensation. So I kept hold of 40 quids of desk for a month. Heard nothing more from them, then gave it to my brother for his birthday.

I accidentally ran DH's Fitbit through the wash. Twice Blush

It was in the pocket of his work trousers and I hadn't noticed. I forgot to empty the washing machine for whatever reason so I ran the load through another cycle. When I found the thing it was dead as a dodo. Totally buggered.

I was gutted when I realised but I put it in a drawer and kept my mouth shut. By some miracle, he didn't ask about it for months. He then "stumbled upon" it in the drawer, charged it up and it worked like new. Huzzah! Grin

My sister once had this massive thing going on because of someone assuming something. In the building she works there's two companies over two floors. The offices on the top floor for both companies and the lower floor is the packing department of one of the companies. One day a courier had come with a package for the other company, which my sister took in. She delivered it later in the day and the people working there assumed she worked in their packing department.

Why she didn't just tell them about the mistake I'll never know but she went to their christmas parties and weddings/birthdays etc for TEN YEARS. It only ended when she got a different job. Those people still think she worked there!

This thread is great!

Brent tying to think of things I have gotten away with but other than managing to go out leaving the gas ring on and lit and coming home hours later to find the house still standing (albeit it with a very warm kitchen!) I can't think of any others!

I've just remembered one...a couple of weeks ago I got home from the school run to realise I'd left the front door WIDE OPEN!!
