To think we should just ban chewing gum

It is disgusting, it is the worst form of litter and it has massive consequences on others. I stepped in gum today and it took me over an hour to get it off.

Ban it

YANBU. No need for it.

YABU - I need it because I have a very dry mouth and am prone to plaque building. Plus it makes me feel like a bad girl in a 1950s teen movie.

I dispose of mine properly though - yanbu on that point.

Is it as vile as bad breath?

I have no idea why people object so vociferously to gum. Gum and litter are two completely separate issues.

OK. We can keep gum AS LONG AS....

Nobody ever again drops it on the street/leaves it under tables and chairs.

There is a law against both chewing it with the mouth open and making chomp chomp smacking noises with the gum, roof of the mouth, tongue and teeth whilst chewing.

Chewing shall be limited to no longer than 10 minutes at a time, with a gap of at least 20 minutes between pieces.

I'd put up with it at that.
