To resign from pre-school committee

LowFatMilkshake · 05/02/2007 10:13

Okay so I was volunteered for this post when I was 6 months PG, by a key worker, said I might be interested, next thing my name is on the board for people to sign and support me

Since having DS, I have had no time to do anything. Wnted to get their last week for an inspection, but DS was poorly and although DH was off work felt I could'nt leave him - or expose him to a whole pre-school of sneezy coughing children.

I dont feel capable of carrying out the role to a standard I would be happy with. Should I resign or just muddle through?

are you just an ordinary committee member or an officer (each chair, treasurer, secretary) ?

If an officer then you really do need to have time to do it - so I would resign. If just a normal committee member then probably stick with it.

How long have you been doing it?
Could you ask them to tell you honestly if they'd rather have someone else? (Maybe they're delighted with what you do - even if you think it's not enough)
Actually, though, if it's exhausting you: resign.
IME it's always the mums with more on their plate who end up taking on even more - let someone else take the strain for a while.

What is your post on the committee? Will it leave a big gaping hole? if it does ...then perhaps still resign but give them plenty of notice.
I would go in and have a word and say you want to resign....and ask the other people on the committee if they can take up your slack untill they find someone else for the role.

TheEmeraldCityTourGuide · 05/02/2007 10:33

Resign.
If you feel you are too busy to do the role effectively, then it will only make you feel guilty.
No-one is indispensible, and they'll find someone else.

I feel I have the most responsible role - ie Health and Safety, as it's what I do for a living. In June I will be ging back to work too, so my time will been even less then.

I was nominated for the post in September - it's not like they did'nt know I was PG as DS was born December!

Also committee meeting are normally on a Tuesday when my DH goes out to his regular thing so I can't attend. I just dont feel I am doing anyone any good doing it in 50% (ometimes less) capacity!

I would resign...just explain you can't offer the commitment you feel the position deserves. I think that would be entirely reasonable.
