To book annual leave for my birthday?

I really hate working my birthday, but have sucked it up and done it the last few years. I could book the day off, but it will mean a day less to spend with DC in the school holidays, and an extra day's childcare to pay for. Oh, and due to the stupid leap year I'll miss a weekend birthday day so feel that I've been robbed.

I'm also working all of Christmas/New Year other than the weekend and the bank holidays.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't depending on who I'm working with! If I'm on the rota with lovely fun people then I don't mind working, I take cake and treats and have a nice day.

If I'm working with less lovely fun people then I take the day off and do nice things on my own like solo cinema trip with non-sharing snacks, nice coffee shop morning with indulgent cake and good book, sometimes even a nice dinner out in one of the places nobody will go with me.

Do it..My Birthday is always around the August Bank holiday so never went to school. It has often been my day off anyway..This year planned holiday ensuring I was on sunbed for birthday..

Book it off! I have never ever worked on my birthday.

Sure it's just another day...but I'd rather have another day going out for breakfast, going to the cinema, going for a lovely walk, going to a museum...doing something JUST FOR ME than I would going to work.

Yanbu.

I have never ever done anything on my birthday that I don't want to do. I don't work, don't make my own meals, don't do any chores - nothing at all!

I please myself without giving anyone else's needs or wants a second thought.
We do the same for DW on her birthday.

Kids also go to grandparents!! Amazing!

I usually take the day off on my birthday.

It's my day, to do what I want.

I would. I think the occasional child free day mid week is wonderful.

Do it!
Depending on what's on around you/what you like, you could:

  • go to a salon and have a massage/facial/hair done
  • go out for breakfast/lunch/both
  • go out to the shops that you never get time to visit with kids
  • go to cinema/museum/gallery
  • have an experience - indoor skydiving??
