Neighbour and my washing

Don't have much to do with neighbour generally, say hello if we meet and pop a Christmas card through her door so it was strange for her to shout to me over the back garden fence when I was pegging out the second line of washing today.
She says that my constantly having washing out spoils the enjoyment of her garden as there is constant movement and noise from flapping clothes and so she wanted to know if I could have a day or two every week where I didn't peg out.
I was gobsmacked tbh and trying not to laugh but explained that with seven in the family there is a lot of washing and drying to be done and I like to take advantage of the drying days so planning days not to peg out wasn't really possible but come October I rarely peg out anyway as garden is mostly shade then so not much longer for her to be bothered now anyway. But of course come October she won't want to sit in the garden then anyway.
So AIBU to peg lines of washing out when neighbour wants to sit in her garden? For clarity there are no small children here so no noise in the garden otherwise and other than cutting the grass and me pegging out our garden isn't used so it's not that we do anything that might disturb her if she's in the garden anyway.

Um, that is bonkers.

PinkSquash · 14/09/2016 13:12

YANBU. She sounds a touch bonkers Grin

Do you have particularly rustly clothes? My washing is on my balcony blowing in the breeze and I can't hear it at all

Borogoves · 14/09/2016 13:12

She's potty! I would hang out as many of your flappiest clothes as possible! WinkSmile

KayTree87 · 14/09/2016 13:13

YANBU. Your neighbour is bonkers.

PinkSquash · 14/09/2016 13:13

Do you line dry tin foil? That's the only reason I can think of for her complaint to have any merit

HarryPottersMagicWand · 14/09/2016 13:14

She can piss off. What a load of shite. No one's washing disturbs a neighbours use of their garden.

Tell her to log it with 101 if she is concerned Grin.

IfartInYourGeneralDirection · 14/09/2016 13:15

I'd peg out plastic bags so they rustle all day

chipmonkey · 14/09/2016 13:15

No, she's a loon and an entitled loon at that. I have four boys and the amount of washing we have is massive. I would hate for my neighbours to start dictating when I could and coudn't peg washing out.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 14/09/2016 13:15

Buy a gimp suit and hang it out. Really give her something to complain about.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 14/09/2016 13:16

That is brilliant batshit! Grin

Ignore it OP, of course you are entitled to hang out your washing in your own garden.

Nocabbageinmyeye · 14/09/2016 13:16

Bonkers is right, that's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard 😂 I'd be polishing my wind chimes and hanging them in the line to dry

Diddlydokey · 14/09/2016 13:17

Smile She's crackers... but then again, one of my favourite things is seeing bedsheets drying, so I'm probably equally weird.

Ifailed · 14/09/2016 13:18

she sounds as mad as a box of frogs, but be aware some homes come with restrictive covenants about washing . Best to check before starting a flappy war with her.

MrsCaecilius · 14/09/2016 13:18

Bonkers. Add some wind chimes to your next wash... Grin

FannyFifer · 14/09/2016 13:19

I would have burst out laughing if a neighbour had said that to me.

SabineUndine · 14/09/2016 13:20

I used to live in a flat where one woman used to complain about washing out on the balcony. She thought it lowered the tone though given the flats were built for single women god only knows why. I would guess your neighbour is actually attention-seeking. Is she lonely? Mine was but it was her own fault cos she was such an old bat nobody would talk to her.

KC225 · 14/09/2016 13:21

How does she dry her washing?

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 14/09/2016 13:23

Wind chimes sound great.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 14/09/2016 13:24

As for your neighbour, she has no right to ask you any such thing.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 14/09/2016 13:24

Utterly ridiculous. Sew milk bottle tops loosely all over a jumper and peg that out.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/09/2016 13:25

Oh dear .... words fail me.

insan1tyscartching · 14/09/2016 13:25

No covenants here and she does peg washing out herself once or twice a week as she explained, it's the every day that she objects to I think. But as I explained I have seven times more washing to do so can't fit it all in on one or two days a week.
And now my third load is ready Grin she'll be thinking I've done it on purpose Blush

She's a loon.

Or you have very raucous laundry. One or the other. Grin

RandyMagnum · 14/09/2016 13:31

Because carrier bags are 5p now, tell her you wash them to keep them hygienic for you to reuse, hang those out on the line to dry Grin

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 14/09/2016 13:31

The trouble is, now she's mentioned it you'll be feeling uncomfortable every time you hang washing out! She really has no right to make you feel like that and I would be politely telling her to back the fuck off. Smile
