What is it about - I don't want to click on some random link

Freezingwinter · 13/09/2016 18:26

Your link doesn't work and I think yabu because for me bf was hard work and I was proud of myself for keeping going! I didn't give myself an award each month but don't care if others do. Why do you care?

JackShit · 13/09/2016 18:30

2nd link works. Meh fine. I bf for 4 years if it makes any difference. Should have remembered it's best not to post at all.

I don't do it, but I can't get worked up by those who do. People are proud aren't they, that's all it is really.

So YABU.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 13/09/2016 18:32

Anything referring to 'boobies' is wanky.

OwlinaTree · 13/09/2016 18:32

8 years award! Hats off, I had had enough after a year!

ImYourMama · 13/09/2016 18:33

God OP, why are you negating people's pride in their achievement? Less than 1% continue breastfeeding after 6 months- if they want 'awards' let them!

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 13/09/2016 18:33

Why are they ridiculous.

Some people really struggle, what's wrong with having a little bit of acknowledgement?

AGruffaloCrumble · 13/09/2016 18:33

Why do you care? It's not to my taste but I've worked bloody hard to make it six months bfing DD and if someone wants to celebrate or mark it, just let them.

WhooooAmI24601 · 13/09/2016 18:33

Argh, breastmilk charms? What's wrong with a Cinderella carriage charm like normal folk?

I breastfed, one was easy, one was like breastfeeding an irate, drunk octopus with anger issues. Neither meant I deserved an award (whereas now that the eldest is 10 I deserve a frigging knighthood).

Birdsgottafly · 13/09/2016 18:34

Taken from the site:

Boobie Awards or Breastfeeding Milestone Awards reflect just how wonderful you are for making a fantastic choice for your baby or child. Breast milk (also known as human milk and chest milk) is amazing stuff and there are so many benefits to breastfeeding or
Chest-feeding.

Chestfeeding? Both men and women have breasts, so why do we need to change the name, when a Trans-man is doing it?

Why do we need a seperate category and award if we've BF a disabled child, are they somehow lesser and we deserve a medal for now not practicing exposure?

RandomDent · 13/09/2016 18:36

Well that went well JackShit. That's you told! ;) :o

ScarfForAGiraffe · 13/09/2016 18:36

I don't like these as it seems to set "feeding for a long time" as on objective. If I only fed to 2 years did I not do as well as someone who managed 3. What about the interests of the child or the changing needs of the mother. I'm incredibly pro breastfeeding but did notice this in ap/bf groups too!!

Stevefromstevenage · 13/09/2016 18:37

People get awards from weight watchers for losing a couple of lbs. This is the of the same ilk for me, it would not interest me personally but if it floats your boat go for it.

PacificDogwod · 13/09/2016 18:38

I love the idea of some sort of 'award' or acknowledgment of a not-always-easy-job done well.

I hate the idea of it being commercialised though.

And it's 'breast feeding'. And 'breasts'. FFS.

RainyDayBear · 13/09/2016 18:45

I think it's a bit twee, but it does no harm. BF is tough (I would only get an amethyst charm personally!) and if it helps women feel motivated or look back and feel proud, why not. I find the breastmilk being in it a little odd though, but to each their own!

JackShit · 13/09/2016 19:25

I still think it's daft. As for 'why do I care?', well if everyone kept to posting only about things they are REALLY worked up by AIBU would be pretty empty Confused

Oh my god, what the fuck is chest feeding?

And no, I don't think breastfeeding is worthy of an award. Go achieve something proper.

thescruffiestgiantintown · 13/09/2016 19:54

I'm not particularly keen on these 'awards'. But I do understand the term chest feeding after reading a really interesting article in Time about a trans man's pregnancy; my understanding is that it could be really distressing for a trans man to refer to his chest as breasts because that would be a reminder of the sex he was born as etc.

moggle · 13/09/2016 19:58

Wouldn't the fact he was pregnant be a reminder of the sex he was born as?

whattheseithakasmean · 13/09/2016 20:00

I think its daft, but then I didn't think BF was some massive struggle or great achievement. I found it pretty easy in the scale of adapting to a being a mum, it came pretty naturally & I think I would have found bottles more faff. Anyway, there is more to being a good mum than BF - you could BF for years but be a shit mum, so the awards are pretty meaningless.

shrunkenhead · 13/09/2016 20:01

What about the poor souls who only managed a few months/weeks/days.....just makes them feel like undeserving failures I guess.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 13/09/2016 20:04

CHEST feeding????

FFS.
