To think being stoned when you have a child to look after is irresponsible?

My friend (a good one) is suffering with a chronic illness which she is self medicating for with weed in the absence of any real help from her doctor (she's waiting to see a specialist after finally getting a diagnoses).

Whilst I wouldn't do weed myself, I don't begrudge her the relief it brings. However, she has a 6 year old daughter. She doesn't smoke in front of her that I know of, but she's stoned in her presence. AIBU to think that it's not on or is she capable of caring for her in that state? Having never been stoned myself, I can't say from experience.

Or am I being a judgemental cow??

Yes much better to grow your own and then you know it's just plant.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 13/09/2016 18:35

Brew Some herbal tea for MrsLurkingHusband. That sounds extremely painful.

Iflyaway · 13/09/2016 18:37

I smoke weed. Mild variety.

Single mum. DS 25 smoked for a while, now gave up. He's at uni and working.

Honestly, I prefer a plant to relax than any shit manufactured by big pharma. No chemicals in my brain and body thanks!

FluffyWuffyFuckYou · 13/09/2016 18:40

It can be quite hard I believe to find cannibis that isn't skunk

Nope, very very easy.

Leave her alone, its unlikely she is any worse than any of the millions of people who drink wine and mind their children.

MariposaUno · 13/09/2016 18:49

I don't dissaprove of cannabis use iv had the odd spliff myself but personally not when in charge of my child.

Having known people who have chronic pain condition to the point of being offered some kind of morphine prescription and refused as of course they wouldn't function day to day with it, instead they swear by smoking weed and function completely well with it.

Doesn't cure the pain but at least takes the edge off. It really depends if she is functional and not a zombie raiding the kitchen cupboards.

Hopefully it's temporary and she get a prescription that works for her.

motherinferior · 13/09/2016 18:50

I have never known anyone get a criminal record purely on the basis of the odd spliff.

I'm not wild about the sound of skunk but that's a different issue.

Munstermonchgirl · 13/09/2016 19:07

'Honestly, I prefer a plant to relax than any shit manufactured by big pharma. No chemicals in my brain and body thanks!'

Erm.... You didn't realise that the smoke from the plant material contains carcinogens Grin

I can't get worked up about anyone smoking the odd spliff, but honestly, it's hilarious when people think they're not actually taking chemicals into their body!!

Myusernameismyusername · 13/09/2016 19:56

How am I being in any way unfair Fluffy?
I worked in a pub for a long time. I heard blokes complaining about this where I live for a long time. Always complaining about it. It was always an issue. It's really hard to grow it without getting caught due to the need for the lights/heat etc. Whereas the synthetic stuff is easier to get hold of. But it's bloody evil stuff.
I also said I understand why people do it.
I also know people who have been caught with it and charged.
It's not an impossible possibly I am afraid

Myusernameismyusername · 13/09/2016 20:01
  • impossible possibility. Sorry I don't have chronic pain at the current time but without knowing one single thing about me (you don't) how do you know it hasn't crossed my mind? I had a severe back injury a few years ago and was in agony. I also am asthmatic so some of the anti-inflam's made my asthma very bad. The other painkillers made me feel disgusting. I am a single parent and couldn't look after my kids properly or go to work until the injury healed, which it eventually improved but has never gone away. It's still illegal and I cannot, CANNOT have a criminal record due to my job. So yes, I do take criminality seriously as it would ruin my career. Even something small. It's not a judgement it's a fact. There's a difference and none of it takes away from the real issue that people in chronic pain risk breaking the law to seek pain relief. The issue is the law. Not me. You tool
FluffyWuffyFuckYou · 13/09/2016 20:07

Well i get it very easily.

Branleuse · 13/09/2016 20:07

leave her alone and mind your own business

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 13/09/2016 20:09

Yes leave her to it

School will pick up on it soon enough.... If not already. Then they will refer on

SarcasmMode · 13/09/2016 20:15

I wouldn't be too comfortable with someone else looking after my DDs when stoned so I would use the same basis for myself.

However, looking after a 24 hour old baby on oramorph And taking strong painkillers when DD was 1ish due to impacted tooth probably also wouldn't be good.

At least the DD isn't at a tender age where she needs to be toilets / fed etc.

SarcasmMode · 13/09/2016 20:19

Toilet ex

aquashiv · 13/09/2016 20:30

I would much rather be in the company of stoner than a someone with drink taken. As long as her child is being cared for and not in any danger then perhaps having relaxed Mum is better than one living in pain.

FluffyWuffyFuckYou · 13/09/2016 20:37

School will pick up on it soon enough.... If not already. Then they will refer on

Very much doubt that. Why would they have a clue? And why would they do anything about it anyway?
Do you know how many parents smoke weed? A lot.

Doggity · 13/09/2016 21:18

"Honestly, I prefer a plant to relax than any shit manufactured by big pharma. No chemicals in my brain and body thanks!"

Grin Oh that tickled me, thanks for the laugh.
nogrip · 13/09/2016 21:27

I have a chronic condition that caused extreme neuro pain, it wakes me up in the night its so bad. Weed is the only thing that means I can go back to bed.

Without it I have to pace the house in the middle of the night in agony.

This is a lot of peoples truth

GreatFuckability · 13/09/2016 21:36

I take a daily cocktail of drugs that would probably knock most people out cold. I am probably 'stoned' a good percentage of the time as a side effect of those drugs. I'm still capable of raising my children.

GreatFuckability · 13/09/2016 21:40

School will pick up on it soon enough.... If not already. Then they will refer on

my kids school have yet to refer me on to anyone. i did run their PTA for the for 5 years though, so perhaps that takes me out of the 'stoner who needs SS help' eh? Hmm

backtowork2015 · 13/09/2016 21:47

What about the example you set though? Enjoying alcohol socially in moderation is no bad example to set a child. Smoking illegal drugs seems a very poor one to me.

It depends on the strain I think. Some don't give a 'head high' so the user isn't impaired. Not sure how she'd get the right strain though without legalisation. Usually people take what they can get. However I do know some picky people who only smoke certain strains do it can be done. I don't smoke it so never asked how.
