Have just read expensive items worth every penny thread & interested to see what others have regretted buying. I'll start off with steam mops, I've had 3 all useless & binned. Garden strimmers again I've had 3 makes and none of them any good. The last was a Gtech which promised so much including free blades for life. Hidden in the small print was the £2.99 delivery cost per packet of 20. By the 2nd use I had used 10 blades as the kept splitting. It was returned for a refund.

The pasta maker is amazing!! Ok, so I use mine for polymer clay and not pasta, but still, I couldn't live without it! Desperate for another one for my bestie!! (We craft together).

H2O X5 mop is used daily ❤️

Sadly not much room (or money) so only buy/source things I know will be used to death!!

Janey50 · 14/09/2016 18:40

Every toasted sandwiche maker I have bought (there have been 3 over the last 20 years). They all got used maybe half a dozen times, then I got sick of having to spend ages cleaning the damn thing afterwards. Why on earth do they not make them with REMOVABLE plates so I can just wash them up in the sink? It's having to do spend ages wiping so carefully round them, trying to make sure I haven't missed a bit, that does my head in! I gave the last one I bought 4 years ago to my DD 2 years ago after getting fed-up with it cluttering up the cupboard. She doesn't mind spending ages cleaning it after every use!

£800 for a heat pump dryer made by samsung

Cary2012 · 14/09/2016 19:13

Juicer, takes an hour to desemble and wash the parts for a thimbleful of juice.

Stupid hand held little vac that picks up sod all.

lotbyname · 14/09/2016 19:18

Steam mop but i used my old h20 mop all the time to steam objects.

Also love my dyson cordless. However how house is all wood not carpet which makes the difference.

The microwave steamer.

MewlingQuim · 14/09/2016 19:28

I've got a Bosch strimmer too, OP. Definitely recommend it, it gets through fairly tough stems as it uses blades not line, and the battery lasts well. I also use it for the allotment.

My useless item is also a steam mop (karcher). I borrowed DMIL's one to clean the kitchen floor, thought it was crap, and scrubbed the floor with a brush and every chemical in the cupboard instead. DH came home, saw my lovely clean floor and ordered us our own Karcher. Wanker. I still moan at him about it Grin

expatinscotland · 14/09/2016 19:35

Steam mop!

darthpaul · 14/09/2016 19:37

Thanks to this thread I just bought a toasted sandwich maker, arriving tomorrow from Amazon! Blush

WhyASpoon · 14/09/2016 19:44

Re: nutribullet - I have one, use it virtually daily and love it! Quick and easy. I also love my slow cooker, steam mop, and aeropress Blush

Pointless things I own are legion though. Bike used maybe twice before I discovered I was pregnant with dd1, then never again. She's now 7 1/2. Dehydrator. Tagine dish. Most of my craft supplies. Spinning wheel (I do love it though, so it's going nowhere)....etc.

ItsJustNotRight · 14/09/2016 20:15

Darthpaul make sure it's easy to clean or do what everyone else does and bin it when you can't face cleaning it yet again. Happy toasties Smile.

Laiste · 14/09/2016 20:17

In answer to itsjst I have a Ninja. (like nutri-bullet).

It's bloody brilliant! Very easy to clean and turns anything or any combination of things which you can fit into it into a smoothie. In one minute on auto.

I go through phases with it, so do DDs and DH. I'm on a phase right now and today i've used it twice - banana, carrot and strawberry smoothie for breakfast, and apple, peach, spinach and raisin for lunch.

Karenhibbert2 · 14/09/2016 20:32

I have a smoothie maker still in the box which was a wedding gift and we got married 9 years ago!!

Gyderlily · 14/09/2016 20:34

George Foreman grill... Burns everything to a crisp on the outside long before the middle is cooked! So now it's just a pricey toastie maker!
H2o steam mop, it was supposedly the best... It's crap and the shape of the head means you can't get right up to skirtings or in to corners well! Angry
Slow cooker, I can cook baked potatoes conveniently by other means.

TheEmmaDilemma · 14/09/2016 20:39

A mini picnic table for displaying food. Yes, really. Never used.

SingaSong12 · 14/09/2016 21:01

Popcorn maker - meant to be for my diet, used once popcorn tasted horrible.

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 14/09/2016 21:02

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 14/09/2016 21:03

My pretty, pretty KitchenAid.
As much as I love it, I could easily live without it. Probably used it 10 times in 4 years.
(it was a big anniversary gift)

mysteriousbat · 14/09/2016 21:04

Carpet cleaner- Didnt really do a good job and i lost parts of it the first time i cleaned it somehow so it was only used once anyway.
Smoothie maker - everything you make in it tastes a bit odd, kind of plasticky.
Sandwich toaster - just too much faff
Soda stream - i love dietncoke and thought this would save some money. No. The fizz doesnt hold and the drinks tasts like shite
Cross trainer - which i swore was a waste of space and money but was assured it would be used every day. Wrong
Rowing machine - which OH said was a waste of space and money and I said it would be used all the time. It isn't.
Mini trampoline - I buy things in the moddle of the night when I am really tired. Kinda like drunk purchases but i'm tired not inebriated. i often wake up with the same feeling of dread and oh crap i shouldnt have done that though, funnily enough.

Didnt realise we had so much crap til i started writing it dow

Duckafuck · 14/09/2016 21:08

Jack Lalanne Juicer. Kitchen carbuncle.

TheEmmaDilemma · 14/09/2016 21:08

Pretty much. But this. It's under the stairs. I still Blush because it cost more than that, and someone offered to buy it off me as at the time there were none other available. What is wrong with me?

TheEmmaDilemma · 14/09/2016 21:09

Opps

To ask what household items were a complete waste of money?
TheEmmaDilemma · 14/09/2016 21:12

I want a sandwich toaster now. I have one, in the back of the cupboard. But it's old and greasy. One with removeable plates might be better.

And I want a steam mop. But a good one.

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 14/09/2016 21:15

But that mini table is clearly bigger than the blue one emma and you could easily re-purpose it/flog it as a dolls table Grin

RingMasterto5 · 14/09/2016 21:18

I took a Dyson to be repaired (only 6 months old) but I presumed it was something easy to fix
the motor had burnt out, filters not only clogged but torn and blocked the hoses.
I was told by the technician that it looked like i had been using it to clean up dust!?!?!?!
We had not long been in a house that had been empty for several years and everything needed deep cleaning, at the time I loved the Dyson as it got so much muck out of carpets etc..... now I'd never have another.
Apparently it was in the guidelines not to use them on thick dust piles (like the ones down the back of beds when moving furniture around!) What are vacuum cleaners for if not cleaning up dust?
