I have to drink crap loads for a whole day before hand. I want to donate which is why I keep going but I have been turned down three times. Twice for non existent veins and once for low iron.

I have done 3 times - and each time got closer to passing out. The 3rd time I was very close indeed and it was pretty embarrassing!. Haven't been back since.

Today I shall be fuelled largely by coffee and day nurse. I LOVE day nurse. I often wonder if I should take it regardless of poorly status. I seem to operate at double speed which is useful.

I donate blood because mine is AB and as you all know I'm unusual

I donate blood quite regularly. I have CMV negative blood, which is the only blood that can be given to babies, so mine always goes for neonatal use. They always comment on my special blood. And I love knowing that my blood may have helped several babies to survive. I got told once that one unit of blood can save the lives of 7 premature babies.

I fainted the first time I donated. I'd already waited and sat eating my biscuit when I came over all funny. I can remember one of my friends asking if I was ok, then I woke up on the bed. All donations since have been fine.

I haven't donated for a while though because I haven't been well enough to, but as soon as I'm back to myself I will be back to donating.

don't that's lovely. I didn't know babies needed a particular type. I thought it would just be like adults where different people need different ones.

Maybe I should go back....it just put me off which is a bit wimp'ish. Thought perhaps I was a bit more bother for them than my one pint was worth as they had to fuss around me, and get cold packs and try and keep me conscious!. I'm just O neg/pos - whichever most common.

Thought the next time might be even worse and I'd use up more resource than helpful. Do you think that might be the case?, or the pint is worth it?.

I've never heard of mad cow disease impacting on humans . I thought as the name suggests it made cows go a bit nutty.

I also didn't know mad cow disease started because they were fed meat and bone mix! Cows are vegetarian! Who the hell though it was a good idea to give them sheep brains, meat and bones to eat?
