AIBU - football training in the rain

DCs (age 5 & 8) have football training tonight. It is cold & absolutely lashing with rain and shows no sign of letting up.

DCs are not particularly talented but seem happy enough to go in the rain.

Parent1 says that they shouldnt go as it's too wet and they will be miserable and it won't be good for them.

Parent2 says that they should go because the coaches will be there and if you've signed up to something then you should see it through. Also that a bit of rain won't harm them.

Who is right?

Parent 2. Football (and hockey and rugby) are winter sports and rain comes with the territory.

I'm also pretty sure Iceland wouldn't have done so well in the euros with an attitude like Parent 1s.

Glad they've gone. Football is a game played in the winter season so it's bound to rain/be cold much of the time. If they want to be brought up as wusses then they need to take up a different sport. Skin is waterproof - we don't dissolve in the rain. Grown up's doing the football run can wear the right sort of clothing.

Glad they went, parent 2 was very right. However I am glad that football is a summer sport in my country!

OP are you parent 1 or 2? you have to tell us Shock

TiverMeShimbers · 09/09/2016 18:44

I am parent 2, but I am aware that I am very much a follower of rules & conventions so when DH says that they don't absolutely need to go because DS is only 5 & it's horrible out & it's only training, I kind of doubted my conviction that going was pretty much non-negotiable.

-Assuming this isn't some corporate sports academy thing you pay loads to attend- Parent 1 needs to be reminded that the coach (and any assistants) will be turning up earlier than the kids to set up, will be there longer to pack away, are most likely just other parents anyway, and are doing it for FREE. Volunteering huge amounts of time and effort to give your kid a hobby and an opportunity to develop a lifelong skill. On a Friday night FFS!

Weather aside, this alone would compel me to go.
