to sign her up for all sorts of emails?

there is a lady who lives in the usa who has a very similar email address to me. over the years I have received a lot of her emails, and whilst I passed them on for ages, when I never got a single thank you, I gave up. (I used to reply to people to say they had the wrong address, and eventually she did email me to say "i'm the scarednoob that they want and my email address is xxx not xxxx", so I KNOW it's her!)

it's been annoying for ages, but recently she has gotten worse and worse and more and more careless in giving out her own email address, to the extent that I get numerous emails for her per day. I get her bank stuff; her travel details; her kids' invitations and school reports; round robins from friends (one hen trip to vegas and I got about 150 emails in a day!) - and most infuriatingly of all, I get all her e-receipts and follow-up advertising emails, multiple times a week, from just about every single store you could imagine, and quite a few that you couldn't.

I do unsubscribe, but most of them don't really unsubscribe you, and you continue getting emails. fucking free people - I must have tried to unsubscribe about 50 times, but they still email me 3 times a day. all because she bought something shitty from there a few months ago. arrrrrrrgh, the rage.

WIBU to sign her up for a few things in return, and if so, what would you recommend - who is really persistent/embarrassing? (I won't really do it, but it's quite tempting to imagine her being bombarded with ann summers and estate agency offers as I delete and unsubscribe from the millionth email of the week...)

Spammyenemy if it still exists?

I must admit I would rather have fun with replies though.

maybethedayafter · 06/09/2016 13:41

Or you could share her email address here and we'll all bombard her!

LisaMed1 · 06/09/2016 13:42

I've had this a lot, and had some very nice chats with people from all over the world as a result. One day I will visit Portland, Oregon and call in on that dentist who has to keep apologising for getting it wrong. They sound lovely.

Blatherskite · 06/09/2016 13:43

Is it a gmail account? gmail themselves are notorious for ignoring any following numbers on an account so if you are [email protected] and she is [email protected] then it might not actually be her fault and she might be just as annoyed as you are.

I would give her a deadline after which you won't be forwarding anything else. I'd list examples of the types of emails she'd then miss.

Remind her of the deadline every time you forward something.

Then from that date on never forward anything again and block every address that comes in.

I wouldn't want to change my email address either as it'd be a massive faff, and I'd only do it as a last resort.

Blatherskite · 06/09/2016 13:47

Someone else with a similar issue here

It points out that [email protected] and [email protected] would be treated as the same account too

ProseccoBitch · 06/09/2016 13:47

I wouldn't change my own email address because of this, I've had the same one for as long as I've had the internet and it would be a pain in the arse. I'm with BT and it gives you the option to block a sender - if you can do this every time you get an email for her it should help a lot as bank/school ones will probably all come from the same address rather than lots of different ones.

Most places if you subscribe you have to confirm the subscription via an email they send you so I don't see how you can sign her up to stuff?

I've not found this when I've subscribed for newsletters.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/09/2016 13:50

I'd turn up in Vegas if I were you!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 06/09/2016 13:52

Laura bloody Ashley.

Millions of emails. A friend of mine made an account in my name so she could order a dress for a friend in the US, which I didn't know about, and I keep getting emails from them ever since.

Trills · 06/09/2016 13:56

[email protected] and [email protected] would be treated as the same account too

This is true, apart from the typo.

But it also mean that if I have [email protected], you CAN'T have signed up with [email protected] because it is already taken.

You could have signed up with [email protected] because there's an extra R in there.

scarednoob · 06/09/2016 13:57

Not Gmail, yahoo. That's how old I am!!

I am loving some of these ideas though. You definitely don't need to confirm subscription, at least not for:

Bloomingdales
Raymond and Flanagan
Free fucking people
Aeropostale
Phoebe Coleman
Bid day
Aldo
Luxury real estate (condos in Vegas, presumably she got v drunk at that hen do!)
Eastern mountain sports
Enada

As those are the ones I've had since this morning. Urgh!!!!!

You need to mark the ones you can't unsubscribe to as spam, that will stop them filling your inbox.

I can totally understand why you are pissed off though.

Trills · 06/09/2016 14:00

eventually she did email me to say "i'm the scarednoob that they want and my email address is xxx not xxxx"

She knows about it. It's her job to tell everyone her correct address.

Don't report emails as spam, that'll not affect her (the person in the wrong) but will affect the people sending the email (who are only doing what they were asked to do).

I would set them to filter to "not for me" folder and just ignore them. If she wants those emails she can go and seek them out.

Now, for her punishment... YANBU at all to sign her up for various kinds of spam.

TinyTear · 06/09/2016 14:03

Gap send lots of emails... Boden as well, and if you put things in a Boden basket then they email you asking if you forgot to actually buy them... so that would add a few more emails

Evilstepmum01 · 06/09/2016 14:04

I would look at changing your filters on incoming mail to block any coming to her email address?

Menwhile, sign her up to mumsnet, start a thread in her name andthen she'll get loads of emails saying folk have commented on her thread! IT could be 'Change your email address you twat'

lifesalongsong · 06/09/2016 14:06

This keeps happening to me too, someone with the same name as me must have a similar email address and keeps using if for job applications. You'd think she might wonder why she's not being sucessful Grin

On the other hand I did mistype mine recently and the person who got the email very kindly let the sender know.

maybethedayafter · 06/09/2016 14:09

sign her up to mumsnet, start a thread in her name andthen she'll get loads of emails saying folk have commented on her thread! IT could be 'Change your email address you twat'

Please do this!

^ THis....

HeCantBeSerious · 06/09/2016 14:12

I think you misunderstand what's happening. The other person is typing her email address incorrectly - what she's typing is the OP's email address.

So if her email address was [email protected] and she's typing in [email protected]. It's a different address - the OP's. The OP can't see emails sent to the correct address.

BeMorePanda · 06/09/2016 14:13

yes and post on THIS thread under her name :)

WhatsMyNameNow · 06/09/2016 14:14

That must be incredibly annoying. I'd unsubscribe and ramp up your email filters. If the email has her name in it then I'd set it to auto delete.

Also gave you tried a big moany email to her?

I'd seriously think about getting a new email.

Btw what type of email account is it?

Trills · 06/09/2016 14:15

You get emails saying people have commented on your threads?

Angelika321 · 06/09/2016 14:16

Wowcher & Groupon are bastards for sending a million emails a day. Sign her up to them.
