To think you don't ask a runner for directions

Nocabbageinmyeye · 03/09/2016 17:52

I find this so annoying, out running this morning and a car stops to ask me directions, it's not the first time it's happened, I'm not the only one around, why would you stop the person clearly out for a run instead of someone clearly out for a leisurely stroll or go into the local shop. I stopped this morning as I was only into the second km but last time I was almost home after a 10km and the colour of a tomato so just said "ah come off it"as I kept running. Why would you do that, aibu to think it's rude? It's annoying anyway I know I'm not unreasonable in saying that

I wouldn't stop for anyone unless they were in distress if I was running it's hard enough to keep going never mind stopping and starting when you've got your pace going.

CoteDAzur · 06/09/2016 12:40

"everyone out and about is in the middle of something - whether it's strolling to the shops, or running"

Some activities require effort and concentration while others don't.

I am flabbergasted at your unwillingness to understand this very simple and obvious difference.

WheelofPan · 06/09/2016 12:42

a twelfth nod to TheStoic - no real need to add. Move on, nothing else to see here. Smile

EvansOvalPies · 06/09/2016 12:43

Agree with Stoic and Fudge (because of their sensible comments). But not arekid as he/she is still agreeing with OP, who is clearly not being particularly sensible, and, as demonstrated, positively unhelpful at times.

There is a vast difference between being helpful or unhelpful, being pleasant or demonstrating a superior attitude. And OP is most definitely demonstrating superior tendencies. 'Ah come off it' is not helpful. Why not just say, 'sorry - can't help'. That would have been far more polite and less superior, same number of syllables. Smile

DollyBarton · 06/09/2016 12:43

I'm also with TheStoic, just for the record.

coolandcalm · 06/09/2016 12:50

however it is clear from this thread that some people are just looking for a reason to be nasty
Yep definitely agree with that one otherwise this thread wouldn't still be going. Some people just love to argue, but not in a nice way. I hate the way some people trawl back through the posts to try and catch people out as well.

LogicallyLost · 06/09/2016 12:52

101handbags to complete? to share what they consider an achievement (or a disappointment)? isn't that what facebook is for?

LogicallyLost · 06/09/2016 12:54

compete even

EvansOvalPies · 06/09/2016 13:01

I wonder why this is wrong, when on other threads someone might make a comment and another poster will tell them to "RTFT". What is the difference between 'trawling' and 'reading' ? Genuine question

alrightarekid · 06/09/2016 13:07

Reading bask it just sounds like you have a real vendetta against the OP, Evans you seem a bit overly invested.
Do you have thread history?

alrightarekid · 06/09/2016 13:07

*back not bask

EvansOvalPies · 06/09/2016 13:14

WTF? Confused
I have not sworn at OP, I've picked her up on a few things he/she has said and have defended myself against a false accusation from a possible sock puppet.

You're completely out of order there.

And what is 'thread history'? Is this something that's bandied around when people don't agree with your point of view?

MuseumOfCurry · 06/09/2016 13:28

Must be annoying to be accused of holding a grudge.

EvansOvalPies · 06/09/2016 13:46

Not annoying, really, Museum. I'm simply curious. I have no grudge, I don't know the OP and to my knowledge, have never engaged with him/her before.

It is a little odd, however, as you have popped up again, not having explained your possible sock-puppetry.

Ah well, looks as though I will have to remain curious (although the Advanced Search did indicate to me that you are indeed the same poster as RunningLulu ).

I don't think personal vendettas (or sock puppetry) are permitted on here? But it seems as though you are starting one.

Statelychangers · 06/09/2016 13:46

Some people are coming across as overly invested, one wonders why some people feel the need to repeat themselves. Thestoic gets my vote too.

BipBippadotta · 06/09/2016 14:52

Yep, TheStoic has summed it up neatly.

MuseumOfCurry · 06/09/2016 15:20

It is a little odd, however, as you have popped up again, not having explained your possible sock-puppetry.

Good grief.

wowfudge · 06/09/2016 15:32

stoic has been quite rude about those who disagree with the OP. It has crossed my mind reading this thread that, should I ever be in dire need of directions from a human being, it may be a) difficult to flag down a runner as they move faster than someone out for a leisurely stroll; and b) I might get abuse or plain ignored.

Can't say I had ever given it much thought before. I still don't think their activity excuses anyone from politely helping another person.

Shiningexample · 06/09/2016 15:43

who even needs directions these days?
y'all got gps on a smartphone doncha?

CoteDAzur · 06/09/2016 15:47

"should I ever be in dire need of directions"

What is a 'dire need of directions'? Confused

Can it not be satisfied by someone who is not in the middle of a difficult activity that requires continuity and concentration?

Statelychangers · 06/09/2016 15:48

stoic has been quite rude about those who disagree with the OP and those who disagree with the OP have been really rude! Prick, cunt, thug and twat - I'm sure there are more insults flying around this thread and funnily enough they are all being fired around by those who disagree with the OP!

BipBippadotta · 06/09/2016 16:11

There's a lot of weird, map-avoidant 'the world owes me directions' entitlement around on MN today. This thread and the one about the job applicant who couldn't be arsed using a map to find her way to a job interview and so didn't go and blamed it on the recruiters for not giving her detailed directions over the phone.

Statelychangers · 06/09/2016 16:16

map-avoidant 'the world owes me directions' entitlement Grin

wowfudge · 06/09/2016 16:21

I haven't been rude to the OP and wouldn't use that kind of language anyway. My last post was a bit tongue in cheek - I stated, 'should I ever be in dire need of directions from a human being' - if I had no phone or other technology to help me out and there was a runner in the vicinity I would ask that runner for help.

Bip - what a load of crap. I sincerely hope you are being tongue in cheek. 'The world owes me directions entitlement' Hmm. See how you get on if/when you get lost somewhere.

MoreCoffeeNow · 06/09/2016 16:26

I'd ask a runner because it's obvious they know the area. And because they aren't doing anything too important to interrupt.
