To think that waiting your turn, means just that!

I stood patiently waiting for my turn to be served for new bedroom doors in a shop today (think order station) and needed some extra information before I placed the order.

Well this woman came out of nowhere and started asking questions about missing parts of her kitchen, the member of staff then left my order and started answer questions to which the woman had no interest. I think she thought the staff could Magic the missing part out of him air.

So this shit went on for 1-2 mins whilst I'm stood (and desperate for a wee) before I actually mentioned to the member of staff that I was here first,

AIBU to think you cannot barge in when people are being served and expect the staff member to give them full attention?

I think it's rude to start putting your own stuff on the conveyor before the person in front has finished. Are you supposed to guess how much room they need? Confused
Also not sure how putting shopping onto a conveyor constitutes fannying about.

If you are weighed down by a basket, just put it down for a bit, or use a trolley.

SunnyBanker · 03/09/2016 17:32

Hypothetical situation - there's a woman who's unpacked half a basket onto the front of the checkout, someone in the middle holding their basket of items and waiting - yep, i'd start unpacking mine onto the back. I'm not pushing in front of anyone, not crowding anyone - what on Earth is the issue?

Getting told 'loudly to wait' wouldn't make any difference except to make me think you were a bit odd and ignore and carry on.

I see this happening all the time in supermarkets - it's commonplace, I find it really odd that so many people are flapping their hands in distress about it.

honeysucklejasmine · 03/09/2016 17:33

Wow Sunny, you willingly admit to behaving like an inconsiderate arse? Very honest of you.

Someone pushed in front of me in the pharmacy queue this week. I stood there like a moron of course. It's a tiny space so I have to stand slightly (half a pace) to the side to fit my pushchair, so I think she thought I was waiting for a prescription to be dispensed, rather than to be served. I did shuffle forward as each person was served, but I guess not obviously enough.

Next time I shall just take up the whole queue space with my pushchair. It takes forever and I have to go every 4 weeks and it makes me feel all stabby.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 03/09/2016 17:37

Ha! sunny, you are That supermarket person. There was another thread about this the other day and it was pretty universally acknowledged that not waiting your turn on the conveyor is pretty rude

YouTheCat · 03/09/2016 17:38

Sunny, it's really bad manners to do what you do. You might realise from the reactions of people in just a few posts that what you're doing is considered really bad form.

People like you just make me want to take my time.

Dixie - It isn't up to the customer to take extra time, when they've already been delayed, to find out the customer policy. Presumably the assistant wasn't mute and could have said if this was the policy. That's her job.

SunnyBanker · 03/09/2016 17:44

sunny, you are That supermarket person

Meh. I'm fine with that...and will happily continue to do it, along with all the other people I see doing it weekly [shrugs]

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2016 17:46

Supermarkets are always full of rude people unfortunately.

GabsAlot · 03/09/2016 17:47

SunnyBanker · 03/09/2016 17:51

well sunny if u do that to me i'll push your stuff off with mine an smile whist im doing it

You so wouldn't Grin ...but it's probably nice to think you would, I agree!

Outtaker · 03/09/2016 17:51

If sunny has left plenty of space for the person in front to finish their unpacking, why shouldn't she start unpacking? Who is she inconveniencing or harming?

RunningLulu · 03/09/2016 17:51

Sunnybanker - and if the person in front has a large shop they're perfectly in their rights to shove all your shit to the floor if they don't have enough space, right?

SunnyBanker · 03/09/2016 17:52

Wait your turn like the rest of us

Er, I do. I've never pushed in front of a queue in my life.

SunnyBanker · 03/09/2016 17:53

Well that's a bit of a moot point Running because they always would have enough space.

RunningLulu · 03/09/2016 17:54

I have done that once Sunny. Just FYI and the manager at the supermarket took my side. If you can't wait in an orderly way in a physical queue you should use online shopping

SunnyBanker · 03/09/2016 17:55

Outtaker - no one, but there seems to be some bizarre etiquette known only on mn that says you mustn't. It's really pissing people off which I find strange...but there you go, takes all sorts I suppose.

DoreenLethal · 03/09/2016 17:55

How do you know how much room the first person and then the second person will need? How utterly fucking rude!

GabsAlot · 03/09/2016 17:55

how would they have enougbspace if the person in front of them hadnt even finished yet

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2016 17:57

I would never try and guess how much space someone needed then plonk all my stuff down. Confused

But if I have a basket I tend to go to the serve yourself.

CrohnicallyAspie · 03/09/2016 17:58

I hate queue jumpers, one time I was waiting outside a public toilet door (single cubicle), kind of to the left to give the person space to come out. The moment it opened someone came from the right and tried to go in first. I just said 'excuse me, there's a queue'. I will have to remember the conga line in future!

I will however ask very nicely if DD (3) can go in first if we're waiting and it gets to the point where she's going 'mum, it's coming out!'

And I let one or two people in front of me at checkouts if they have a few items and I have a trolley.

I do however unload my stuff right at the back if I'm second and the person in front of me has nearly finished- I shop at Lidl so it's the only way I can be unloaded in time to move my trolley and catch it all. But if I was number 3 in the queue then I would wait a bit longer!

ninjapants · 03/09/2016 17:59

A foolish man once pushed in front of me in the supermarket. I had stopped unloading my trolley midway through to deal with a toddler meltdown (DS wasn't being allowed to run away), the man walked up with a basket, glared at me, tutted and proceeded to hand his stuff to the woman at the checkout. I could not believe it! He was a brave man taking on a mother wrangling an enraged 3yo!
