Conversation with dd (13) yesterday.....

dd: "im looking forward to going back to school next week, as some of those year 10 boys are really peng !"

me: "oh right"

dd: "yeah, thats why it's important i get my eyebrows done before i go back as i need them to be really fleeking !"

Seriously, where do they get these words from??? Lol

"Peng" has been around for years. I used it as a teenager too! "Omg he's so peng/pengaleng", "Omg your shoes are pengalicious, where did you get them from?"

"Buff" and "piff" were used in the same way (although I was a bit old for "piff" when that one came about. Other people my age used it though!)

Kenduskeag · 03/09/2016 16:32

She needs to get with it, it's 'on fleek', not 'fleeking'.

Trills · 03/09/2016 16:33

You think you know better than a 13 yr old?

Seems unlikely.

I'd be much more likely to believe that "fleeking" is an evolution of "on fleek", than that a 13 year old had got it wrong and that I (who heard about it on Buzzfeed) knew better.

HighwayDragon1 · 03/09/2016 16:34

On fleek - trendy
Peng - good/sexy/cool
Peak - means bad

CandyMcJingles · 03/09/2016 16:52

Jst noticed my earlier post - auticorrect changed Rochelle Humes to Richelieu Hines or some such nonsense.
How confusing.

Optimist1 · 03/09/2016 17:13

Time for us to reclaim the vernacular! Anyone for fab , super or spiffing ?? Wink

SanityClause · 03/09/2016 17:59

Highway, DD1 (17) was explaining to me recently, either that peak used to mean good, and now means bad, or the other way round. (Can't remember which.)

Sometimes a friend will say it, and she knows from which person is saying it, what it is likely to mean, on this occasion.

Confused yet?

If we are reclaiming vernacular I like to use:

Kit and caboodle
The ubiquitous discombobulated
Nincompoop
The whole she-bang
Marvellous
Antiquated
Cobblers
Buffoonery

I first came across "Penh" about 3 years ago courtesy of the wonderful "Preggers and Peng" stories from Marmalade Twatkins/Bupcakes

When Mumsnet was fun, and there were fields of green everywhere

Candy - we're on the same page with those suggestions!
