Bought a 'sleep inducing' milk and honey one for the bedroom and a 'clean sheets' (or similar BS name) yesterday and my house smells bloody lovely!

I know they are vilified on here but please explain why?

Love them. Yanbu. On low. Turned off at night (when I remember Blush)

No difference. Have a look at ingredients. A Jo Malone candle contains fragrances mostly derived from industrial petrochemical processing plants

And no difference between most expensive perfume and Impulse body spray. All derived from crude oil.

In fact one of the marketing features of Chanel No 5 when it was launched in the 1950s was it was modern and totally synthetic.

If you like it, and are not inflicting it in anyone else , no problem .

Personally I can't stand plug ins, Airwick type things, incense , reed diffusers or scented candles. Or dangly things in cars.

I like them too, they smell nice. I can't use them though, any prolonged strong perfum smell gives me a sore throat... I can't go into a Lush store either for the same reason.

I work on the idea that anything I don't want to eat then I try not to ingest though other routes.
So synthetic benzoates, thalates, ketones, esters, terpines, aldehydes are not things I eat. I also don't want to inhale them

If I can eat it it is welcome to perfume my home.

BTW I have a degree in Chemistry with experience working in the pharmaceutical industry.

Their was a post recently about baby plug covers causing fires and being a general danger to all. Surely these things are along the same line. Plastic plugs. No electrical current running though them. Apart from the file smell they produce id say they were a danger too.

If you like them, and aren't worried about the chemicals you're breathing in or the damage they cause to the environment, use them but if I was your guest, switching them off when I asked wouldn't be enough for me to not get a headache or start sneezing, you would need to switch them off and air the room well in advance. Which is obviously ou know you have guests coming.

Do they have that dead fish hazard label on the packaging?

wasonthelist · 03/09/2016 11:30

To me they all smell like an 60s East German chemical works, but its your house.

Skittlesss · 03/09/2016 11:38

Aaah but they take away the smell from the fruit shoots and greggs sausage rolls I gave the kids for their breakfast!

KoalaDownUnder · 03/09/2016 11:46

Given that I sorts myself daily with perfume ('cause I love it), I think I'll carry on with the scented candles. Wink

I've never come across a plug-in that I liked the smell of, though.

KoalaDownUnder · 03/09/2016 11:46

Sorts? Spray.
