AIBU?

...to think that most people in the Marvel universe lead really unhappy lives?

I want to like it, I think some of the plots are great and love the settings/costume design etc. handsome men and there's some great humour too. I just can't get over how miserable life is for everybody.

It doesn't seem to bother anybody else I know, but I'm about to give up on Agents of Shield because everybody has such a traumatic backstory or current story. I really enjoyed the start of it (them all on the bus, getting to know each other, working together) but it's just got more and more sad for all of them!

Even if you're not one of the main characters you're at risk of being blown up, forced to kill each other on a nice night out at the cinema, generally swatted aside as if you don't matter...

Is there any Marvel that's a bit 'nicer' I could watch to get back into it? It keeps making me cry at the moment Blush

I've dotted around the films a bit, I did like the first Avengers though so I'll look out for the second.

I think it might be the relentless misery of the last few I watched that put me off! I always thought some of the violence was a bit overdone (I know it's because it's based on the comic book style of fighting) but there was usually enough humour and fun to distract me.

Thank you for giving me some recommendations (and reminding me of the high good-looking man quotient Grin).

Also you need to mix it up a bit. Agents of Shield followed by Big Bang Theory perhaps?
Mmm Thor mmmmmmm

Deadpool is great. I really loved the flippant way the heroes listed their real and exagerated childhood traumas, it really highlighted the cliche sad backstory of all superheroes.

Marvel is still quite upbeat, but DC is a pit of despair, barring the Flash (and even then, he still get the blues sometimes, Oliver Queen must be contageous)

I gave up on Agents of Shield a series or so ago. I loved it at the beginning too OP but agree it got a bit silly / oddly depressing.

The worst for me recently was Black Widow's angsty back story in the Civil War film. Really unnecessary and actually made me quite cross although I won't go into details as I'm not sure what the deal is on MN about spoilers.

Agree with recommendations for Agent Carter, Antman and Guardians of the Galaxy - the latter in particular left me belly laughing in the cinema. Really fun. Marvel needs more swearing gun toting raccoons in my opinion (although if they made a Squirrel Girl film I'd be happy with that too).

Yay, I have found my people. I don't know anyone who watches agents of shield in RL.

I have a huge crush on Fitz, if he and Jemma don't ride off into the sunset and have babies together at the end of the series I will be devastated.

I always feel a bit sorry for Loki, what he needed was a psychiatrist really.

Marvel characters have an eventful life off screen too.

In our house there is usually a marvel figure with us when we got out. Either child size or with a child.

They have their heads swapped, get washed with a ridiculous amount of soap, occasionally used as a bargaining tool, get buried in sand and are forced to share a bed with a child.

I'm going to marry Thor and become the Godess off Marvel.

Have you seen the video of Thor discussing what he's doing whilst Captain America and Iron Man did their movie? So funny.

Went to see Guardians on principle as i wasn't being left at home and LOVED it. Can't wait forcthe next one

I have the first 2 series of Agents of Shield on DVD- I watch the first half of the first series when I want something lighthearted Grin

StrawberryQuik I LOVE Fitz.... This may have now extended to Iain De Caestecker in general Blush they were pretty happy at the end of the last series so I'm hopeful that continues (although the new series has a later time slot in America to allow for "darker storylines")

People think I'm odd for not letting my children read/watch marvel, but this is why- they are so dark.
I just don't understand why this stuff (iron man, etc) is aggressively marketed to children, yet all the films and comics are completely unsuitable.
There are so many good, non-dark, comics that children can read too.

Bitty, that's probably light relief to a superhero Grin

I like Fitz too, especially his jumpers, and hope it doses end happily for them (like Rigsby and van Pelt in The Mentalist, although it did take about 6 seasons for that).

I suspect that isn't quite Simmon's natural accent - her vowels change when she gets excited!

I love Thor and iron man movies, I've been told that dead pool is very good and funny. Haven't seen it for a while but I enjoyed Hancock with Will Smith
