Anne Shirley is great. But Elizabeth Bennett for me.

Inspired by this thread, I'm reading Emily of New Moon. The way she talks to Ellen is pretty awful but I've just got to her first meeting with Jarback Priest. I can see LMM might have meant it to be romantic but it's just coming across as creepy.

I'm absolutely reeling from the news that Gilbert Blythe (well, the actor from the TV series, is dead Sad, not sure how I missed that before). He was my first love, and I always imagined Gilbert in the books to be just like him.

I dream of PEI and Avonlea. One day...

My DD is called Emily, for reasons I think people on this thread may understand.
Loved Anne, and adored the TV adaptation, but was never keen on the last books. Sort of shattered the beautiful, perfect PEI world and while I know the world was shattered, this is one world I don't want broken into pieces. If that makes sense. This is my safe place to escape to when I need a bit of head space and I don't want wars intruding.

Just finished the Emily trilogy.

Avoiding possible spoilers... I liked the first two books best but got increasingly frustrated with the third one. I approved of the ending though.
