Bounty women on maternity wards

I know this has been done before, but ho hum.

AIBU to say that marketing companies have no place on maternity wards?

After giving birth to my babies I was exhausted and vulnerable. It was a massive invasion of privacy for the Bounty women to barge in trying to harvest my details before my own parents had even met their dgc. They were waiting downstairs for visiting to start.

Hospital should be a sanctuary. Women on postnatal wards aren't necessarily ill, but I've never felt more ill in my life. On no other ward would it be acceptable for a marketing company to prey on patients, so why is it still ok on maternity?

Gives me the rage Angry

My DD is 12 weeks old and I refused the Bounty visit this time - one of the staff on the maternity unit asked if I wanted to see her and when I said no she reminded me that the child benefit form is in the pack. Midwives dropped the pack off to me on their visit a couple of days later, but it did make me think how unfair it is that we are scaremongered into taking the pack for this form!

The lady first time round was great.

I was gutted I didn't get any pictures 2nd time round!

Hello,

I stumbled across this thread whilst trying to find out how to stop a hospital from selling mine and my baby's personal details to Bounty. Anybody know? I asked my midwife at the booking in appointment and she told me to look inside the pack she gave me. I couldn't see it anywhere as I'm sure they don't want us to have that option.

Can't believe the stories of the Bounty women invading people's recovery period. The day after giving birth I was in shock, feeling very scared and vulnerable, and I can't imagine having to face a stranger trying to take my photo. I thought I saw somewhere it had been banned?! Hmm

Thanks Smile

Had a baby this year. She was in NICU (full term but was having some issues with body temp, blood sugars and an infection) and I was in just a towel after having a shower when she barged in.

Banging on about photos etc. Erm. I'm stood here in a towel, blood pooling on the floor because she barged in as I was sticking those horrid maternity pads onto my knickers, leaking boobs and wet hair. Was still in a bit of shock from an incredibly fast birth and my baby being whisked off at a few hours old - Id woken up from a nap and she was blue which caused a huge amount of panic and this was only a few hours before.

On and on and on she went. She didn't even notice that my baby wasn't in the room ffs.

After a minute or two when I'd got over the shock of a non medical person seeing me almost in the buff I lost my rag and told her to fuck off. Then went to the midwife station and said perhaps they should ban the vultures from the ward or at least make sure they don't hassle women who's babies are in NICU or worse. All I could think about for the 5 day stay after was what if the woman had spoken like that to someone with a very, very sick baby or one who had been still born Sad

When I had DD1 I was very young, alone and was considering having her adopted (changed my mind, obviously).

Bounty woman came round and started banging on about photos. I told her I wasn't interested but she wouldn't leave.

In the end I snapped, told her that I may not be keeping the baby. Her response?

"Oh, well it's even more important that you buy photos of her then. Give you something to remind you of her."

I cried. A lot.

Agree with you Feeona -, I missed the bounty lady with dd2 so had to go back to hospital for her photos. I thought it really good value for money and babies stop looking new born so quickly.
