SIL and her jangley anklet

Omgkitties · 30/08/2016 22:00

SIL has one of those anklets with something on that jingles every fucking single step she takes. She never ever takes it off. It's doing my head in now.

WIBU to just rip it off her ankle and throw it a thousand million miles??!?!

Say something like 'I don't know how you put up with that thing janglng on all day. It would drive me mad'

What happens at night with it? Does she wear it in bed- I wouldn't want to hear it jangling through the night. I like guests to be quiet in their rooms. No hanky panky in our guest beds.

FairNotFair · 30/08/2016 22:47

curfew tag for hippies

Omgkitties · 30/08/2016 22:49

Wears it all night I think, unless she takes it off before bed and puts it back on when going to the toilet at 3am.

If she took it off I would've snuck in a kicked it by now.

Take up Morris dancing? These would soon drown out the sound of her tiny anklet Grin

If she kicks up a fuss about you asking her to take off her annoying anklet just don't welcome her in your home again. You're nice enough to letting her stay for a whole week when you only wanted the weekend.

Not sure why they need to stay a whole week just becuase they're back to college next week though.

Omgkitties · 30/08/2016 23:00

Bournemouth has a beach and a lot more to do than our home town so it's basically a holiday for them.
I suppose it is a nice way to spend the last week of your holidays, I loved Bournemouth as a teen that's why I moved here, so I'm sure if I had relatives here I'd be visiting them often haha.

Hang her from a curtain pole and use her as a windchime.

Rainbunny · 30/08/2016 23:06

Does your SIL know that we aren't in 1995 anymore?

Snorted tea everywhere WhatWouldLeslie.

Memoires · 30/08/2016 23:27

These were fashionable when I was a teen. That's 40 years ago! I had one, it tinkled prettily. I think it lasted about 2 hours before I took it off never to wear it again.

LuluJakey1 · 31/08/2016 00:01

What would Leslie Have just woken DH up giggling at the picture. Those bells look like something alien on the shoes. Love the idea of OP dancing round the house in those.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 31/08/2016 00:08

PMSL after reading first page and "human wind chime" 😂

I can't stand noise. If she won't take it off duct tape it to her ankle till it chimes no more.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 31/08/2016 00:09

Leslie you genius! Hahaha!😂

TheClacksAreDown · 31/08/2016 00:20

Just ask her politely to take it off.l as it is upsetting the cat. Who cares if she snitches to MIL - sounds like she's got her number anyway.

Lollyp333 · 31/08/2016 00:23

Don't be such a snob - women are supposed to wear what they like! You sound a horrible person. She might hate your perfume but have some class and deal with it!

LightDrizzle · 31/08/2016 00:25

I love this widespread idea that prostutes wear them: a sort of cross between an ice-cream van playing a tune and a cow bell.

Sadly I don't think it's true, but I'll listen out for a cheerful jingle next time I cut across Osborne Street to get to Staples when the nights start drawing in.

Omgkitties · 31/08/2016 01:02

You sound a horrible person
Because I can't stand the constant noise of her anklet? Alrighty then, I'm awful.

OP posts:
Omgkitties · 31/08/2016 01:06

And also I am dealing with it. Have I asked her to stop wearing it? No. Have I been rude to her about it? No. Have I just done my best to ignore it as she'll be leaving in a few days? Yes.

I'm not a horrible person for having a little lighthearted moan about an obnoxious anklet on mumsnet. Can you seriously tell me you'd be happy to have constant jingling? And it is constant as her anklet makes noise with every single movement. You probably wouldn't.

OP posts:
Willywolly · 31/08/2016 01:10

Lollyp333 how is the OP a snob? Everyone has things they don't like and MN is probably a good place to moan when you can moan to anyone else. No one would be happy if someone/thing was making constant noise. The OP is dealing with it well by not throwing the anklet into the ocean while her SIL is still attached.

omgkitties You aren't a horrible person at all. That was such a nasty comment to make. We all have things that piss us off and your thing would piss us all off.

Willywolly · 31/08/2016 01:13

Whoops! Can't moan not can.

paxillin · 31/08/2016 01:15

Is she walking so very much in the house? Shaking her foot all the time?

Is it possible you hate your SIL, you are both a similar age, slightly in competition and the jingle wouldn't annoy you quite so much if your DH wore a bell anklet?

Omgkitties · 31/08/2016 01:19

It would annoy me if anyone wore one. Even myself. I did say that I had one when I was 16 that I wore for 2 minutes and then took off and never put back on because I couldn't stand the noise I was making.

I don't hate her at all, I'm not her biggest fan but I don't hate her. Why would I let her stay in my home for a week, 5 days longer than I actually wanted, if I hated her?

And it doesn't matter if she's constantly walking or shaking her foot, try wearing one for 5 minutes and you'll understand what I mean. It's constantly making noise, even the smallest movement. But yes anyway, she does walk around a lot, don't ask why because I don't have a clue but she's always up and down.

I too live in Bournemouth and even I can hear those bells Grin
