To leave my new job after a day?

I feel awful.

I hate it because it's just dull and the day drags. There isn't enough work to fill the day Blush

The people I'm working with are lovely and I don't want to leave them in the lurch.

OP I've boomeranged back to my old job after being at a new one for a few months. I knew pretty much straight away I didn't want to be in the new one - the work was so darn boring despite an over 10k pay rise. I called my old boss, we met for lunch and she took me back. I knew people at the time thought I was mad but i was so unhappy. After I started back at my old place, people Commented on how much better I looked as I guess it had really taken it out of me. I would stick it out for 2 weeks and then see how you feel.

I once had a job with ridiculous work levels. My hours were 0800 to 1600 and I worked until 0900, had some breakfast in the canteen and was finished by 1000. It was utterly soul destroying. I worked with a bunch of people who like being idle and wanted to keep it that way. So the one and only time I asked for more work and complained to the manger that I was bored, I got well and truly roasted by the other staff.

I also once temped in a place where I was given a list of work to do - I zipped though it all in a couple of days and then was told it was the whole two week's work - I really shafted myself out of that one. So there are places that have incredibly low volume of work for the hours/pay that you do.

And I also left a job for another only to hate it passionately on the first day. I stuck it for two months and detested every single minute of it. My boss really was a megalomaniac. I wish I'd walked out of the door the first day.

From your responses on here I think you should go back to your old role.

Dh has done it.
The 2 people who got my old job after me did it. One actually walked out at lunchtime. After waiting 6 weeks for security clearance.
A former housemate did it.

Dont feel bad. The other applicants may still be available and until then there are temps.

If the tables were turned and they needed to fire you after a day, would they feel bad?

"So there are places that have incredibly low volume of work for the hours/pay that you do. "

Yes, which is not a problem if you're allowed to do your own things in the downtime, but really, really awful if you have to sit there pretending to work.

OP needs to find out if the amount of work she had on day 1 is typical or if she had less work because she was completely new.

Many years ago I left a job after 1hour This was in my own trade which I was very good at. I set up the machinery and started working. I turned round and everyone was looking at me, and not in a nice way.
I switched the machine off, went into the office and told him I was off.

NotMe321 · 31/08/2016 08:50

OP, you do seem over-sensitive. There are a number of posts on here that you have misinterpreted as attacks on you or rude, when they are neither.

purplefox · 08/09/2016 10:50

How did the rest of the week go?

FreddyFireflyCanFeckOff · 08/09/2016 11:11

Whilst I think you are being unresonable. It has only been a day! I do envy your spontinaity.

amusedbush · 08/09/2016 11:19

I started a new job six weeks ago and the first couple of days dragged while I was getting up to speed on the new role. Now I'm up to my arse in work every day, it's really challenging compared to my last post which I knew inside out and I'm enjoying it.

The first few days are never that exciting!

ilovesooty · 08/09/2016 12:06

I think you've already decided to return but based on the information you've given I think offering suggestions is difficult.
