Optical express - laser eye surgery

Always been keen to correct my vision, so had a consultation for the surgery last week (after receiving countless calls from them daily after registering my interest in their website).

Consultation was fine and turned out to be more than the £595, or whatever they quite on the adverts, price per eye - tbf, I am a cynic so was fully expecting this (total £2200ish).

Consultation went okay but I have had dry and watery eyes on/off since and this is putting me off making a decision.

Have received a couple of missed calls from them as well as follows up email since and now I feel that as they have my details it's just going to be a hard sell until they make me buckle - AIBU to think this? And is it worth me doing it? Thoughts on negotiating the price?

I would avoid Optical Express like the plague, in fact more so. They are IME completely incompetent. I went to a supposed free "expert consultation" (with a view to IOL insertion, not laser surgery) - the "consultation" consisted of the receptionist asking me to fill out a form, vanishing for two minutes and then telling me to go away as they couldn't do anything for me. At no point did I get to see even an optician. I was furious - they'd wasted half a day of my time. They then had the cheek to pursue me with emails telling me I'd missed the appointment - and to cap it all, during the ensuing email exchange where I complained about their false advertising, they told several outright lies about what had happened.

Needless to say I went to one of their competitors (Accuvision) and had no problems at all.

Ah yes, re old thread - ooops! Still - Optical Express were utter crap two years ago and I don't suppose they've improved since, so still a valid point ... (!)

If anyone knows of any practises/surgeries that have rectified problems caused by lens replacement procedures please let me know. The thought of having to live the rest of my life with my vision the way it is is almost unbearable.

Oh Flaggy Flowers

Have you tried a consultant at Moorfields or somewhere like that?

Flaggy123 · 05/03/2018 18:07

Thank you for the advice,I am pursuing this avenue quite literally within the next day or two. Thanks again.

I had mine done in 2008. I had -9 and -10 and my vision is still perfect. My eyes didn't feel like I had been cutting onions after the operations. The vision was a bit blurred at first and then it wasn't and I am very happy with my eyes. They are less dry now than they were before the operation, but I am sure that is a coincidence. It took a bit more than 6 months to get used to the stranger in my mirror. I had glasses since I was a little girl, so it was a bit weird.

My husband had it done, best thing he ever done according to him.

My mil then had it done, she is currently taking them to court due to the botch job they have done. The lies they have told have been unbelievable - body swerve optical express if you can.

Research very carefully before you make your decision.

Flaggy123 · 06/03/2018 12:29

I would be interested to know what Scotsrule's relatives symptoms are.I have been looking to sue OE but fear I could be throwing good money after bad.How are they pursuing them legally? I would not trust OE to tell the truth even if it did get to court, they really are a shower. They should not be involved in a business where peoples sight is involved.I have had better aftercare from a car dealership than this lot.

Scotsrule · 06/03/2018 19:27

Flaggy if you search for optical express ruined my life the lady who runs that will be able to give you more details about how to pursue them and how they play in court. I believe she has a massive history with them and with supporting people looking to pursue them

Flaggy123 · 07/03/2018 15:24

Thanks.Been down that route.Something not quite right about that support group though. She advised a firm of solicitors who basically did not want to represent me & I've heard nothing since. That was 12 months ago.

Scotsrule · 07/03/2018 18:48

Sorry to hear that - Would suggest they maybe didn’t think they would win, which is awful! That’s not what it’s supposed to be about - it’s about the impact they have had 😕

cinderellawantstogototheball · 07/03/2018 19:15

There's a short time limit for personal injury claims, OP - might be 3 years. If your dr thinks you've got grounds, you'll need to find a new solicitor.

Sorry, flaggy not OP!
