to declare a pizza margherita with ham...

...not a pizza margherita?

Had to re-order pizzas earlier on because I didn't read the description on the menu properly, assuming that 'margherita' means tomato-cheese-basil!

Is this a thing, or did I happen upon the one restaurant in the world where ham is added as a matter of course? I'm currently in France.

DM came to visit when I lived in napoli and I took her to Michele ( best pizza in the city)

She wanted to order a hawaiian pizza. When I told her I wanted to leave the pizzeria with my knees intact she muttered something about 'foreigners ruicing our food'.

DM is irish. 100% irish. 🙄

Ruining

I had to ask waiter if we could add ham to DDs margarita pizza on the kids menu this week. He looked at me oddly and said "but it already has ham on it". Which caused our friends to request no ham on their (veggie) child's pizza.

This was also in France. It must be a French thing.

I was reminded about how dire France is for veggies when driving through recently. We stopped at the lovely flash motorway service stations for a snack, but there wasn't a single sandwich that didn't contain either ham, chicken or tuna. Not a single plain cheese and tomato. I ended up getting cheese and herb flavour crisps.

I agree on the ham and lardons and such like being used as seasoning on everything, so many perfectly good vegetarian meals marred by a liberal sprinkling of lardons Shock. Only in France can you go to an Italian restaurant and fail to find anything suitable for a vegetarian, even the pasta with "sauce tomate" has mince in it. Yet there is also spaghetti bolognese on the menu. Perhaps it's bigger mince and a hefty pinch of chopped ham.

This was one reason I didn't settle in France and moved over the Alps to Italy, had I stayed in France I fear I'd have died from croissant and pain au chocolate poisoning, as they were pretty much the only things not in danger of being garnished by the dreaded jambon.

A pizza crunch is amazing. That is all.

I had a cheeseburger pizza the other day. A huge burger topped with cheese and mushrooms, wrapped in pizza dough like a calzone, and topped with bacon and cheese. So dirty. So good.
