To ask what do adults do in Disneyland for two weeks? Just go on the rides everyday? Is Florida better than California?

I've only been to Disneyland Paris. Would like to go to the Florida or California one but couldn't imagine myself there for any more than a few days?

What do you do all day for two weeks if you're an adult? Is there other stuff there apart from rides?

Also is Florida much better than California?

Thanks :)

California has theme parks (Disney, Universal, Magic Mountain) and so much more to offer the state is far more varied than Florida

If it's just theme parks Florida

Or California for beautiful costal drives, LA and Hollywood (worth a day or two) diverse cities, beautiful national parks, amazing beaches, interesting historical places (Alcatraz very interesting) short trip away from Vegas

I would choose California over Florida everytime it's an amazing place to visit there is so much to do but plan it's a big place

Thank you very much to the posters who replied about the dining.

I shouldn't take over someone else's thread. at a later stage I might start my own and ask for some advice.

We aren't even going into 2018 and I'm just getting a bit bamboozled are trying to work out what's best for all of us :

with two boys who like scary rides and water rides, as do I.

with a husband who doesn't particularly like rides. But he wants to go serious shopping, as do I.

My bil has a place, near the parks, with a pool, but this would mean me doing all the cooking, cleaning, food shopping, which is not a real holiday for me.

maybe one week there and another week at a hotel, with the dining?

Dh also considering trying to stretch it to 3 weeks. and going for a few days or a week in Clearwater or Tampa.

but I'm not sure ds's would like that, might be boring, and they might want to go back to the parks?

I've Even been going to some of the other websites, reading advice, trying to go through everything. it's hard to try and figure out what is best to meet everyone's needs.

nicknameused, I've been to Orlando twice and SoCal 3 times. I found Orlando to be a LOT cheaper for eating and drinking than the latter, and I mean a LOT!

Randytortoise · 30/08/2016 11:23

We did California in August. Did 2 days at universal and 1 day at Disney. For the rest of the week we spent time on the beach and exploring santa Monica but run out of time to do Holywood.

suit2845321oie · 30/08/2016 11:28

I think that Orlando is ok for a few days - a couple of days in Disney and a couple in universal and then get the hell out of there. People forget that There is more to Florida than Orlando and it's a fabulous state - Miami, the Keys, Sarasota, the Everglades, Anna Maria. I would do California but don't underestimate the state of Florida

Dixiechickonhols · 30/08/2016 11:35

Never done Disneyland only Orlando. Disney has 4 parks and 2 water parks. Plus mini golf, Disney springs shopping and restaurants and boardwalk to stroll on and watch magicians etc. Like to do a few hours in park at most then back to swim. Like nice meals out, Disney has some beautiful signature restaurants. Also like visiting the Disney hotels and there are themed bars. Adult only there is a food and wine festival at Epcot in autumn and a similar garden one in spring seminars to go to eat and drink around the world. Bands to watch - billy ocean, starship, Hanson all sorts. Drinking around Epcot countries is popular. Look at trip reports on the dibb uk forum for lots of ideas.

Dixiechickonhols · 30/08/2016 11:40

Universal had more thrill rides and fantastic Harry Potter section if you are into that. Also has adults only horror nights in September/October if that appeals.
Shopping and eating out- currently magical dining month so upscale restaurants $33 each.
Beach/space centre/natural wildlife. Trip to Miami or the keys.

We went to florida for three weeks this summer. DS is 15 and niece is 7.

We booked a villa with a pool in Orlando for the first week and did the Disney parks, an outlet, Florida Mall and some chilling by the pool. Which was my niece's favourite bit! She was underwhelmed by the parks tbh which was a shame. Turns out she is scared of heights. From Orlando we drove over to the Kennedy Space Centre and stayed at a hotel there for a night although you can do it easily from Orlando. We then headed up to Daytona and went to the NASCAR race track which the boys loved - got to do a driving experience on the track. We stayed at a nice beach resort there for a night. Then we headed up to St Augustine which is a lovely old town - don't do the trolley bus tour though. Just wandering around would have been better. Nice hotel with a pool there. From there we headed over to the west coast to a nice beach resort town - Indian Rocks Beach. We had a house for a week there on the intercostal side and had a dock going it into the bay. Really relaxing. Saw dolphins every day and BIL fished from the dock.

So Florida doesn't have to be just theme parks. There is a lot more to it.

Oblomov - I had always been wary of the villa as figured it would be hard work for me but it was great. We ate breakfast in a few mornings - yoghurt, fruit and toast but we mostly ate out. We love Denny's for breakfast. Everyone chipped in with stuff so no one person was left to do everything. Ate lunch out bar one day when we just had bread and cheese and fruit etc. Evening meals were either out or we ordered in. Most restaurants do take out so we ordered and someone went to pick it up. Most villas have a BBQ and we bbq'd at both villas we were in. I would def do a villa again.

We've been to Florida for 17 days this summer end of July beginning of August, we've done 2 days at Disneyworld, just Magic Kingdom, two days at Universal, one day at Sea World and one day at Discovery Cove. Discovery cove comes with tickets for Sea World, Aquatica and Busch Gardens. The kids didn't want to go to Aquatica and Busch Gardens as they had enough by then but I highly recommend Discovery Cove, it was the highlight of our holiday besides Magic Kingdom. You get to swim with sting rays and exotic fish and you can also book swim with dolphins.

Shopping is really good in the outlet stores in Orlando also.

We spent the second week in Indian Rocks resort on the Gulf of Mexico, it was lovely, you can drive to Fort Desoto beach and Anna Maria island, both lovely places.

We went self catering, first week in a villa with a pool in Orlando and second week in an apartment complex on the beach with a pool. Although it was self catering I never cooked as eating out is quite cheap.

DS15 and DD9 declared it the best holiday ever. Smile

It's a long time since I was in California. We went in 1986 and didn't find it expensive at all. I found eating out in and around the theme parks in Orlando pretty expensive. It was the taxes and tips that made it expensive. DD and I finally found a couple of places that were self service and did really good food. This was away from the parks.

MrsOllyMurs · 30/08/2016 14:08

Ssshhhh....chrisinthemorning - don't tell everyone about Anna Maria Island Wink

CiderwithBuda · 30/08/2016 14:13

Fleurdelise - we might have been in Indian Rocks at the same time. Smile

t4nut · 30/08/2016 14:19

Mostly you're going to queue.

Fleurdelise · 30/08/2016 15:18

CiderwithBuda - 30th July for a week. Did you enjoy Slyce pizza? Wink

Guys I'll tell you a secret Fort de Soto beach is better than Anna Maria Island having been to both this summer, better sand, water amazing and not so commercialised, don't tell anybody ok?Smile

CiderwithBuda · 30/08/2016 15:46

We left on the 30th July - Grin

Didn't get to Slyce pizza. Was it good? We did Crabby Bills a couple of times and another one whose name escapes me.

Fleurdelise · 30/08/2016 15:55

Best pizza I ever had. You need to go back just for it. Grin

Crabby Bills was lovely also (I had octopus OMG), and JD I think it was called, the piano bar. Our accommodation was opposite the donut cafe if you have seen it at all. Smile

SenecaFalls · 30/08/2016 16:02

So Florida doesn't have to be just theme parks. There is a lot more to it.

Thank you for pointing this out. I'm an (almost) life long Florida resident. I haven't been to Disney since about 1995 even though it's a two hour drive from where we live.

Oblomov16 · 30/08/2016 16:20

Thank you very much Cider.

EllyMayClampett · 30/08/2016 16:25

Florida is better than California. It's bigger and offers more.
Adults at Disney do go on the rides and watch the shows. They eat in the restaurants, relax by the pool, etc. Adults at Disney without children are often real Disney buffs. They like to marvel at "how Disney does it" and they look for insider jokes and winks like "hidden Mickes."

Fluffsnuts · 30/08/2016 17:05

I have to echo what others have said. If you want the Disney experience, stay in Orlando. There are 5 Disney parks plus water parks so you'd need at least 6 Disney days, plus 2 Universal parks and Discovery Cove if that's your thing. It's busy and hectic so a few rest days round the pool and at shopping malls are much needed.

If you want to see a bit more of America, then go to California - there's only one park, so you'd only need 2/3 days.

SquinkiesRule · 30/08/2016 17:09

California is the best.
Disney,
California Adventure
Knotts berry farm
Universal studios
Long Beach
San Diego zoo
San Diego wild animal park
and give yourself a day off inbetween every now and then to sleep, swim in the hotel pool and shop. We went to a huge shopping area in Irvine.

SquinkiesRule · 30/08/2016 17:11

Also down there is Sea World, Legoland. Magic Mountain (thats a bit further north) La Brea tar pits, Lots of other beaches, Catalina Island. and more.

NicknameUsed · 30/08/2016 18:07

"Florida is better than California. It's bigger and offers more."

Erm, I would disagree with that. I loved San Francisco, seeing the original Universal Studios in Hollywood and seeing the actual film sets, the Mojave Desert, Death Valley, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, San Diego, Calico Ghost Town, Palm Springs etc, etc. There is loads to see in California.

Florida has a lot to offer, but IMO California offers far more diverse things to see and do on a holiday.

SparklesandBangs · 30/08/2016 18:22

I've been to both too many times!
If it's adults only then I'd go to California I'm not a big fan of LA but it is easy to do a fun packed and varied 2 week holiday in LA and San Diego or a 2-centre with San Francisco. California the state, the culture, the food and the people are far nicer than in the Orlando Florida bubble.

If you have kids or just want wall to wall theme parks, cheap food and shopping with loads of other Brits then Orlando is your destination, the parks are bigger and more spread out and there are more of them. It's all geared up to the tourist. You can of course leave Orlando and explore the real Florida but even some of that is not great.
