To think 'The Exorcist' is the least scariest horror ever?

Well, maybe not ever but it is hardly scary is it?

The first time I watched it I was quite nervous because my mum and MIL watched it when they were in their 20's and they both said they couldn't sleep for weeks after. I thought it was quite funny and very tame.

My sister is here and she is now watching it for the first time.

I read something earlier that said it is still rated as one of the scariest films ever made.

My eldest Dd had the music as a ring tone for ages everytime she got a text I would shit a brick Blush I was not really scared by it but was disturbed i hate it. The ring is the scariest film ever i cried when i tried to watch it those Japanese are twisted feckers 😂

Love horror but think as long as they get the build up right it will scare me lol.its when there's a reveal and/or it starts getting silly then it's disappointing.

Found first few paranormal scary then they started getting daft. Watched ouija experiment yesterday. Horrible lol

Exorcist not so much but seen so many before it was just another film where guess at the time viewed differently.

jellyhead I have the soundtrack to The Omen on CD and it's as chilling listening to that on its own as whilst watching the film. The score was brilliant.

I recommend It Follows - really good modern budget horror.

NuckyT · 29/08/2016 12:31

I think The Exorcist really stands up today, not just in terms of scariness but in how much attention is paid to the characters. All the main characters are tremendously well acted (especially by Jason Miller, who wasn't even a professional actor) and come across as believable human beings. Jaws and Alien are also remarkable in terms of how well drawn the characters are.

Thanks daughter

I remember my friend and I going to the cinema to see it when it was first released. Neither of us wanted to see it but both thought the other did Confused. It was terrifying even though I peeked most of it through my fingers over my eyes.

I stayed at my friend's flat and frightened her half to death by having nightmares and screaming he's in the room! over and over for a good part of the night.

So in answer to your question, YABU Grin

There is a recent film, American i think about a woman whose husband disappears. she is pregnant and her sister comes to stay. Eventually the husband turns up, but is a broken man. I think other people disappear too. Its all to do with a really scary subway tunnel in the area. I really recommend it, but cant remember the name

Absentia?

I recommend descent and creep (2004)

tofutti · 29/08/2016 17:10

i find it very scary and I haven't allowed myself to watch the film/read the book in over 10 years. But I am religious, so maybe that's why.

laylabelle · 29/08/2016 17:11

Urgh it follows was horrible at parts. Its the movements!! Then like Blair witch people just standing in corners. Don't like those moments lol. Think scare more easily then used to

Middleoftheroad · 29/08/2016 18:05

Blair Witch did nothing for me at the cinema and I've never understood the jype.

It Follows, however, is great.
Both of the Let the Right One in films are great too.

Middleoftheroad · 29/08/2016 18:05

Hype!

Mumble29 · 29/08/2016 18:13

Big horror fan here too and you can't really beat old school, late 70s and 80s horror. The Exorcist is a great film but I agree, not scary.
Halloween (John Carpenter version) used to scare the shit out of me when I was little. though.

Middleoftheroad · 29/08/2016 19:08

Ok so now I really want to watch either
The Descent
Creep
Or Eden Lake

Which one first?

Andrewofgg · 29/08/2016 19:19

When the Exorcist was released I was at university and my then GF and I saw it in a cinema full of students all laughing themselves senseless. It's about as scary as an ice lolly.

efeslight · 29/08/2016 19:33

Yes, thanks RainbowJack, its Absentia-pretty good and not too violent

RainbowJack · 29/08/2016 21:07

I don't know if it's scary or I was scared because I watched it when I was so young but - Arachnophobia Grin

Anyone remember that? I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned in any list.

PumpkinPie9 · 29/08/2016 21:10

The Exorcist i didn't feel scared after watching it, Halloween I really did. Age around 14 for both
