As if fb people you know couldn't get any more stalky they are going to share your number unless you go to settings and opt out within 30 days.

OP posts:
venusinscorpio · 27/08/2016 15:25

I think it will come back up again at some point Roussette. Mine came up while I was in the settings bit trying to figure it out. They want you to agree the new terms.

Trills · 27/08/2016 15:25

314 they have your number, and the numbers of people you have messaged. Not a lot in itself.

NotTodaySatan · 27/08/2016 15:31

I need help with this.

Got the pop up in WhatsApp yesterday and chose the 'not now' option.

When I go to 'Whatsapp' - 'Settings' I can't find anything that refers to this in either 'Security' or 'Privacy'.

Can anyone tell me exactly what I need to do?

venusinscorpio · 27/08/2016 15:33

It's because you haven't yet accepted the terms. You will get the pop up again, when you do click "read more about these changes" and you can disallow the fb sharing.

NotTodaySatan · 27/08/2016 15:34

So it will just appear again at some point?

That's fine, will opt out when it does. Thanks.

TurquoiseDress · 27/08/2016 15:54

Thank you, have just opted out of sharing my details.

Had the update yesterday which I agreed but I did't read any of the details.

Roussette · 27/08/2016 16:06

Thanks venus. I'm on tenterhooks waiting for it Grin

I have to admit I only quickly looked but could only see "AGREE" at the bottom and no opting out or reading more about it, but was whatsapping DD at the time so not concentrating!

EverySongbirdSays · 27/08/2016 16:09

I can't find the bit where I can opt out theres no bit in my account settings for info sharing Confused

venusinscorpio · 27/08/2016 16:15

On my iPhone it was an arrow in the bottom left hand corner of the pop up, Roussette.

Roussette · 27/08/2016 16:27

Thanks venus will look out for that... I have samsung but it probably won't be much different cos whatsapp's whatsapp Smile

Still nothing

tinytemper66 · 27/08/2016 16:39

I don`t seem to be able to find the share my details etc in settings.

FathomsDeep · 27/08/2016 16:44

Thanks for this. Have opted out.

Poocatcherchampion · 27/08/2016 16:46

It is always unpopular on here but I don't really see why I need to worry about this?

I don't care if fb have my number.

Trills · 27/08/2016 16:51

I also am reasonably chilled. But I don't like that it has not been asked clearly.

When WhatsApp were bought by Facebok they said they would not share data. Now they are. And they are hiding "permission" inside an update, knowing that most people won't read it.

I don't think anything terrible will happen if they share their knowledge about me.

I do think they have been rude in how they went about it.

BackforGood · 27/08/2016 17:01

Thanks OP, and thanks Trills for the explanation

WilLiAmHerschel · 27/08/2016 17:04

Thanks for this op and everyone else who helped.

I opted into this recently. Usually I'm careful about this sort of thing and read before agreeing to things but not this time. Am very glad I've been able to opt out!

Roussette · 27/08/2016 18:47

It's just come up now! My arrow was on bottom right... not easy to spot unless you know... then there's a box to untick before you AGREE.

RaeSkywalker · 27/08/2016 18:58

Thank you for this information. I have opted out.

kali110 · 27/08/2016 19:22

Trills what about if you deleted whatsapp? I didn't know how to deactivated the thing so i just deleted it.

kali110 · 27/08/2016 19:23

I never posted anything, i couldn't work it!

BertieBotts · 28/08/2016 09:09

OP I know you didn't say that but the way you worded it, that's how people were likely to interpret it (and panic).

StayAChild · 28/08/2016 09:49

Thanks for this madhurjazz
Love MN for stuff like this.

miserablesod · 28/08/2016 10:16

This must have been the update i agreed to yesterday. It keeps popping up and i kept ignoring it, until yesterday when i was like yeah whatever without reading it! Blush

Anyone that had been ignoring it, don't worry it will pop up again.

ShelaghTurner · 28/08/2016 11:10

I got my update yesterday on iPhone and there was a very clear yes or no slider. Didn't have to hunt in the t&c at all.

Trills · 28/08/2016 11:13

If you've deleted WhatsApp before "agreeing" for them to share data then obviously you haven't agreed to it so they can't.

It's still possible that WhatsApp have your phone number and the phone numbers of your contacts though. I don't know if they do, but it's possible.

One thing WhatsApp do not have is your messages. They don't save your messages. That's why if you get a new phone, you can't see your old WhatsApp messages.
