Is it just me? Is it a new thing? Maybe I've been here too long...about 7 years now.

I was just about to come on and have a browse and so forth and I thought "God I don't want to...it's so miserable!"

I know it's been said before...how you used to be able to have a laugh here..but there really has been a big drop in humour or something?

I think I used to find aibu funnier because it was all new to me. Several years on I find myself getting riled by the same attitudes which pop up which is my bad really and I shouldn't rise to it.

I don't find the topics as funny either op, but maybe we've got mn fatigue?

IzzyIsBusy · 27/08/2016 16:49

The bullys fall in to camps for me.

Camp 1) Nasty get a kick out of being mean for no reason.

Camp 2) We have been here since day dot and everyone else who does not understand our in jokes or long since gone amazing poster names are shit and sending mn to the dawgs Hmm

Both camps are nasty imho.

It does kind of seem like a series of depressing marriages...

AIBU? My husband murders puppies in his spare time but won't listen to my suggestions for compromise!
AIBU? My mum refuses to serve us real food and only dishes up weeds and rocks from the garden. What should I do?

It's like... I dunno, are we getting a bit Four Yorkshiremen these days? It seems like every 'gosh that's a domestic conundrum' thread gets bested, surpassed and outshone by something out of the early 'were these the warning signs?' chapters of a true crime novel.

I find it cheers me up visiting here, most of the posts I find fucking bonkers and relates very little to real world.

Competive martyrdom
Ridiculous hand holding
Middle class angst
No such thing as naughty children
And so on...

No wonder the DM has a field day with this place.

CaptainCrunch · 27/08/2016 17:59

Humour is pretty subjective though. I've browsed some threads on here with posters saying "omg ROTFL at this thread" and I'm totally buggered if I can figure out what it is I'm meant to be laughing at.

VioletBam · 28/08/2016 06:41

Kendus Yes! I see the same miserable domestic situations over and over and I think it's getting me down a bit. It's sad! So many women stuck in awful situations.

Before Mn there was nothing. I had a colicky baby, a non perfect marriage etc etc
There was no support or advice then - excepting family of course- but if they didn't help( and mine didn't,) you were expected to pull yourself together and get on with it.
How much better my life would have been with the knowledge I have gleaned here!

redexpat · 28/08/2016 09:00

I stay away from the relationships page. That makes me really angry.

OP I totally agree with you.

I've also been here a while and there's definitely more negativity and less genuinely funny banter than when I first came here.

At least we can mention there is bullying now though. There was a time a couple of years ago when if you mentioned bullying the bullies would pile on and deny bullying existed on MN.

TheCrowFromBelow · 28/08/2016 09:39

It really helps to hide AIBU. I usually have it hidden, unhid it a week ago and MN is a totally different place. I'm going to hide it again!

I started the Wanking Monkeys thread and honestly could' believe how many people thought I was being serious.
