Quick background:

Travelling. Staying in a hostel dorm room.

Creepy guy in dorm room been generally creepy the last few days. Staring a lot, asking a lot of questions about where I'm going etc.

This morning and again this evening I suspected that he might have tried to touch me (not sexually, just touching my foot and hair) but I didn't see anything so wasn't sure. Then about 20 minutes ago I was pretending to be asleep and I fucking caught him trying to touch my foot again!!

What do I do now? I don't want to go back to sleep knowing that he's probably going to try and stroke my foot again, but what can I do at this late hour without waking everyone else up? Can I move rooms? Or get him kicked out? So fucking angry, I leave and 7am and am fucking knackered I really wanted to sleep!

Antony, I have been worried about that. He was asking a lot of questions about where I'm going next and how I'm getting there, how expensive it was etc etc. I lied on every count but now I'm paranoid that he might have overheard my real plans :/

I've sometimes stayed in mixed dorms when travelling too - the biggest problem I found with it was all the loud male snoring!

FedupofbeingtoldIcantusemyname · 25/08/2016 01:16

I've always staying in mixed dorms before, never had a problem until now!

I would not think twice about waking other people up if some random bloke were touching me in the night. Also, if I were asleep and someone were doing this to someone else I would be glad to be woken up - so that he can be told to get the fuck out of there!

manicinsomniac · 25/08/2016 01:20

Staying in mixed dorms isn't unsafe. There's too many people around for anything to actually happen and creeps like this get dealt with, as has just happened. Well done, OP, hope you get a good night's sleep now.

BlueFolly · 25/08/2016 01:20

Sorry - didn't update thread before I posted! Well done OP!

FedupofbeingtoldIcantusemyname · 25/08/2016 01:34

Ok, I tried to get him kicked out. As it turned out, when security went up there to remove him he wasn't there :/

Instead they've given me a private room for the night so I can at least get some sleep. He is apparently something of a regular and a bit of a trouble maker but they've never had enough proof until now to bar him. But now they will for the future Grin. What goes through someone's mind to make them think that what he was doing was ok?!

Hope you can get some sleep now op.

Is there another way out he has left by or is he still in the building?

BlueFolly · 25/08/2016 01:40

Is there a lock on your door?

FedupofbeingtoldIcantusemyname · 25/08/2016 01:45

Not sure pointless, there's a few ways in and out but I think he is still here somewhere. I leave early in the morning and need to go in to get my stuff from the other room but they said someone from reception could come with me. Door has a key card so definitely locked fortunately!

BlueFolly · 25/08/2016 01:46

That's a relief, at least you can get some sleep now!

PointlessUsername · 25/08/2016 01:50

Have a good sleep op.

avamiah · 25/08/2016 02:00

OP,
Your bloody brave I'll give you that.
I couldn't stay in a mixed dorm and in my younger days I travelled alone.
Look after yourself .

NPowerShitShower · 25/08/2016 02:06

Dirty pervert. Make sure he's reported to the local police too.

I'm actually kind of worried that you asked on here instead of going straight to the management!!

Glad it's been sorted out now though.

SoTheySentMeA · 25/08/2016 03:29

Glad it's been sorted out. Sleep well and good luck with your travel plans!

YelloDraw · 25/08/2016 07:49

I would wake the room.

"STOP IT, GET OFF ME, STOP TOICHING ME YOU FUCKING PERVERT"

And be hen go and find whoever is on night duty and tell them that he keeps strokimg your hair and foot when he thinks you're asleep and you want him removed from the room NOW or you want to be in a separate room.

YelloDraw · 25/08/2016 07:50

Ah just seen your update. Good.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 25/08/2016 08:16

Staying in mixed dorms isn't unsafe. There's too many people around for anything to actually happen and creeps like this get dealt with, as has just happened.

Sadly, that isn't always true. I remember the case from about 20 years ago, of Caroline Dickinson, murdered in a French hostel, surrounded by all her friends. Sad

mygorgeousmilo · 25/08/2016 10:16

Next time, don't waste time asking the Internet what to do! This seems so obvious! Quickly report, for yourself and for others' sake, and you now need to be sure that the other people sharing the room with him are aware, if he still has access - and maybe even the local police should be alerted, as he's clearly a pervert and the hiding part of it is extra creepy - he knows he's done something wrong and like the hostel said it wasn't the first incident. By all means stay on shared dorms, enjoy travelling, and you don't need to be paranoid, but when something like this happens you do need to act fast and nip it in the bud. Stay safe, and maybe stick with a friendly group of girls, or change plans completely. What country/city are you in?

manicinsomniac · 25/08/2016 12:23

That's absolutely horrendous VeryBitchy but, as you say, about 20 years ago. During which time people have also been killed and snatched from their own homes (including a child from a caravan and a child from a tent in the garden). Awful things happen in all places but they are isolated incidents and shouldn't put people off a usually safe, very cheap and easy way to see the world.

FedupofbeingtoldIcantusemyname · 25/08/2016 17:03

I know it seems so obvious now but at the time I was in shock a bit and just panicking about whether I was overreacting or not! It hasn't put me off though, I think hope that he was just an isolated weirdo.

I'm in a different hostel Munich now Smile

Ah, sorry for being snippy! Felt a bit panicked on your behalf I guess. I'm glad you've changed hostels, if anything weird happens again, don't worry about overreacting - it's a cliche, but better to be safe than sorry! Have a wonderful time travelling, be safe, and have fun.... still the best thing I ever did 😀
