Possibly having guessed my IRL friends' Mumsnet names, feeding back nice things about their posts, threads, and having a sort of parallel universe secret clandestine friendship we never actually acknowledge in any way??????

I would love this but I've never spotted anyone.

I have a few times seen a thread title and instantly thought of a recent situation with a friend, but once opened realise straight away its not them.

How did you spot your friend?

MsKite · 22/08/2016 20:16

If it's me, tell me and I'll namechange Blush

Kittencatkins123 · 22/08/2016 21:10

To be fair, her name is in her user name. Can't be certain but think it's her.

MsKite don't worry your identity has not been compromised! Smile

Or I'm just being really lovely to a complete random and have created this whole thing in my head!

might need to get out more

I recognised a friend on here from her writing style. I have absolutely no doubt that she would guess who I am too, she may already have...

WhataMistakeaToMakea · 22/08/2016 22:15

I would love to recognise my friends. Sadly though I think they lurk rather than post

HeyOverHere · 23/08/2016 00:48

YOU NEVER SAW ME.

I WAS NEVER HERE.

THAT'S MY STORY AND I'M STICKING WITH IT.

ImNotJoeMyNameIsHarry · 23/08/2016 04:20

I've never recognised anyone yet. Apparently my mums on here but I've never seen her. Feel like being mean to her to see if she posts in AIBU but that seems too mean.

Marjorie ... is that you?

MermaidTears · 23/08/2016 08:44

sootica what was the made up name?

The other day I was at the pub and I shit you not a kid was called Tinkerbell. About 8 years old. Shocking.

LifeIsGoodish · 23/08/2016 09:25

Someone did that to me once, and I really did not like it. I'm sure she did not mean anything malicious by it, but it made me feel very uncomfortable - it was almost stalkerish. Eventually she came clean in RL on having recognised me OL. Shortly after that, I started namechanging.

MermaidTears · 23/08/2016 13:25

life did she read anything you would rather had kept anonymous? That would be my concern

Laiste · 23/08/2016 13:36

Ooooh it's not always good when MN crosses into real life.

A couple of years ago i was using AIBU to have a few good old (quite identifiable) moans about my NCT group. Then I twigged that one of them posted here and would have probably read my posts.

GoEasyPudding · 23/08/2016 14:42

I'm Jason Bourne really. I have to come to Mumsnet for good conversation as all my spy buddies are a bit too serious.

SmilingButClueless · 23/08/2016 14:51

I - completely by chance - stumbled across a RL friend on another forum. It just felt wrong to be reading their posts. To the extent I don't really use that forum any more.

I suppose I just like to think it's all anonymous...

LifeIsGoodish · 23/08/2016 18:22

Mermaid, no, but it felt uncomfortable and I felt that it restricted what I could say.

I think if my friend had wanted to post something personal/tricky she would NC for obvious reasons.

I'm talking about the odd noticing she's posted a funny BUT COMPLETELY INNOCUOUS comment on a thread I'm reading/posting on and sometimes -ONCE- cutely ref-ing her.

Jeez Christ. I'm not effing advance search stalking my mate of 16 years! We are actual happy lovely friends!

I might tell her this weekend that I've sparked concern on MN.

Though I do appreciate that your situation sounds a bit creepy.

backs away from further 'cute' posting

Oh Kitten I'm not saying that you're weird or creepy!Smile Just that it was for me. It stopped feeling creepy when she asked me leading questions that made it obvious she knew my posting name, with lots of silly winks and grins.

AtiaoftheJulii · 23/08/2016 23:59

I posted a photo on a "what is the ugliest thing in your house" thread, and my friend recognised it Grin And told me. I don't think p

AtiaoftheJulii · 24/08/2016 00:00

Oops, dropped my phone. I don't think I've said anything on here that I wouldn't say to her, so that's ok.

I figure there must be other people here I know, but I've not spotted any.

Queenbean · 24/08/2016 00:04

My old housemate from uni used a forum and someone told me her name with a hint I should read it. It was excruciatingly embarrassing reading it because she'd posted pics of me and our other housemate with all this lesbian porno chat which others had responded too.

Then a few weeks later she called us whores on one of her posts and the adoration stopped. I was very glad but not big enough to actually mention it to her!
