AIBU to be annoyed about the extra washing?

My DH is a keen sportsman in his spare time...just football and running in our local park. So say 4/5 times a week lots of extra sweaty washing to do!!! I'm a SAHM so all washing etc falls to me. Now I'm getting annoyed and don't know if I'm being unreasonable. My point is I don't expect him to clear up after anything I choose to do in my leisure time and his activities create additional work for me. We have 5 children aged 5 to 13 so my machines pretty much on all the time as it is!!
Yesterday he went running with DS and Dd and the dog so created 3 more outfits for washing and then proceeded to use 4 towels for the dog and leave the bathroom in a state after washing the dog in the bath, which I had scrubbed spotless on Saturday. I was livid that then my Sunday afternoon was spent washing and recleaning the bathroom. He thinks I should appreciate he's encouraging the children to be fit and healthy (and I do!) But I think he should consider the extra work he's creating for me.
In fairness they do put everything in wash baskets etc. Maybe just because it's the holidays and already workload is high due to having all the children off school. AIBU? He asked what I wanted him to do about it and I didn't know?

SAHM doesn't mean general skivvy OP.

He made a mess in the bathroom then he cleans it up, why did you do it? And he should wash his stuff and the towels, come on. Stop being a martyr.

I agree with NeedAnotherGlass (your username is on fire i love it) I mean yeah, he's working and you're at home so (MY OPINION) it's kind of natural for the woman (if SAHM) to take care of most of the housework, but definitely not all of it. You're not a slave. You're a woman, you're a wife, you're a mother and you're a lady. Your DH should help you with the cleaning/washing/etc when he gets back from work, then you're going to make dinner together, and after the kids go to sleep you're going to make scandalous hot sex in the kitchen.

Hope this works, OP you have a magic bathroom!

What did he want you to do about it? NOTHING! I'm sure he can use the machine himself...

SirKillalot · 22/08/2016 13:08

He asked what I wanted him to do about it and I didn't know?

I can't believe that he even had to ask that question and that you didn't know what to say (I.e clean it up). Hmm

Well 4 or 5 times a week is the recommended amount of exercise that everyone should be doing. So, I think YABU to complain about the change of clothes involved in that. It's just the level of washing that there is, you can't argue that's wrong any more than you can complain about him wearing clean clothes to work every day.

Your actual problem is that you feel there is an unfair division of chores and leisure time, and YDNBU in expecting that to change.

Trifleorbust · 22/08/2016 13:32

He should have cleaned up after himself to a basic standard, even if ultimately deep-cleaning gets done by you later whilst at home. There is no excuse for an adult leaving a giant mess for another person to clean up and just walking off. And asking you what you wanted him to do? Ridiculous.

hotdiggedy · 22/08/2016 13:51

Why are some men so selfish and lazy?

Creatureofthenight · 22/08/2016 13:58

Why didn't you ask him to clean the bathroom that he had just messed up? Why did you feel that you had to do it?

capricorn12 · 22/08/2016 14:14

YANBU. I have a similar situation as DH has a job that means he often comes home with filthy clothes but he also regularly runs and cycles too and then I have 2 sons who both play football (twice a week each) and a newborn baby. I lose my rag about the washing on a regular basis as I'm the only one who does it. My biggest issue is eldest Ds who seems to think that if he has worn something for a couple of hours it needs to go in the wash.....I've realised that this is because it's easier than folding it up and putting it away

GoldFishFingerz · 22/08/2016 14:20

The he just needs to clean up after himself. It's not rocket science. It's great he does sport with the kids but he should be setting a good example to the kids and putting the washing in the machine. The kids can help him do it and then hang it out. Why should he just get the fun parts at the expense of your time particularly when you hav such a big family. Yes you are in charge of the household domestic stuff but everyone should be pulling their weight proportionally . Adults and kids.

GloGirl · 22/08/2016 14:30

Actually YABU. Your chores are cleaning the bathroom and doing the washing I don't think he's being unreasonable to assume that putting his dirty clothes in the wash pile or using the bathroom is different to the norm.

That being said - YANBU to feel like a house slave if he does fuck all at home and make you a domestic skivvy. Yanbu to say "The balance is uneven, I'd like you to do XYZ jobs around the house now."

I work FT, train 5-6 times per week and don't treat my spouse as a skivvy. You need to get him to do some housework, he is being an arse. Remember you are also training your sins to behave like this in the future too.

Stevefromstevenage · 22/08/2016 14:32

Sorry sons

Stevefromstevenage · 22/08/2016 14:35

Good Apple I saw that on Facebook earlier and immediate thought of how many threads on MN read like it.

I'm married to a cyclist so I understand about all the extra kit. We got to the stage where we now have a system where he sticks his kit in the wash and knows how to work the washing machine now (although only the gentle setting appropriate to his pricey cycling kit). I still get disgruntled though because of the amount of stuff that is invariably hanging around drying and the effect is that I cant get through the normal household washing because the drying space is taken up with cycling kit.

Also, the sticking the clothes into the washing machine and turning it on stage is the easy bit isn't it? It's getting it dry that I find tedious.

When the weather is good its much easier because of outside drying. No answer to this - weve got 3 airers already and am already tripping over them as it is. Sometimes wish he was as obsessed with a more low mailntenance hobby .... like IRONING. Smile
