To think this is exactly what I would have done!

Heard that an old friend of mine had her flat broken into late at night a few weeks ago. She is a single mum to her ds 4 and obviously was very scared when she heard somebody creeping about her home. She could hear them in the living room, so after calling 999, managed to sneak up behind him and knock him to the ground (she used to work on the doors so she is used to taking on people bigger than her) and held him down with her weight until the police arrived. The burglar turned out to be a boy of 15, who is now claiming that he was assaulted by my friend, saying he has various injuries etc. and my friend is so worried she is going to be charged. I'm so angry that anybody would even listen to this boy, as far as I can see he broke into HER home where HER son was sleeping, so hell mend him if he got hurt! He could have been even more unlucky and been stabbed had he broke into somebody else's home. Fair game in my opinion.

I would have done the same, little sod shouldn't have been there in first place, at least the sod wasn't armed!
Where we used to live, in a violent unsafe country, there was a break in & shooting nearby. My dh had someone from a security company come around to us & our neighbours to advise us about how to deal with these situations. He told us that self defense is the most important thing, it would be down to us or them and we should always remember thieves have no scruples so neither should we. Thank godness it never came to that, but tbh I would kill anyone who tried to harm my dh & dc or our animals! And if you think that it is extreme, sorry to say that this is a country where a old granny & her 3 grandchildren were raped and murdered by drowning in a bath during a robbery, and there are too many other tragedies every single day.

So he was fair game and flowers to your friend, I sincerely hope she & her family are ok and the little bastard' gets what is coming to him! 😡

Coolcarrie I agree totally. Not too extreme at all. Hurt my DC or even tread on my pets paws and you're a goner. Seriously though, when it's them or us, it's got to be them. Anyone that says different is either weird or a liar .

Etta, in the US your home/tenants/building insurance covers you for medical claims from others harmed on your property. You can't opt out of that element.

Reasonable force - the very definition of it.
