To be pleased to have won a weekend in Chesterfield?

Went to a barbecue earlier, a charity event rather than a private barbecue, iyswim.

Bought some raffle tickets for the cause - a hospice. Had wine, burgers, the usual. One of the blokes 'hosting' the charity evening announced the first prize as...
"A weekend in Chesterfield". My parents bought the tickets but left early as, knowing them, they would feel a 'do' like this is beneath them - more of a 'don't in their eyes than a do' iyswim. My DM probably didn't like the fact she wasn't the centre of attention! Anyway, enough of a 'snapshot' of my family, at least my D parents bought a load of tickets, and we won the weekend in Chesterfield!

Gullivers Kingdom is in Matlock. Very pretty place excellent fish and chips.

Shatners - woops - date is September1995! Oh well (they might overlook that)

JK - mil said "oh that's near Ilkeston" - so maybe she was thinking of American Adventure - it's actually Gulliver's Kingdom. Seems that there are a few of the 'Gulliver's' theme parks about...one or tow in South of England of that name.

Thanks Boogers - I don't think I've been to Matlock - places in Derbyshire I've mostly been to have been very 'Peak District' iyswim - Castleton, Buxton, etc..

Oh, bad luck. It's really just for children. It's at Matlock Bath, by the way. Weird prize, and badly described. A weekend in Chesterfield would have been OK.

Id quite like to have a stay in Chesterfield, I find the spire fascinating. Ive driven through it a few times going to other places, and wrong turn visiting Hardwick Hall, but never stopped there.

I think what I'll do Shatners is have a look on their website to see exactly what the park has got to offer - you're right - the prize was VERY badly described! - They should have said "2 tickets for a theme park" - and it literally is, just that - there is nothing towards the accommodation costs at all - !!

The gritstone edges make good walks, and you can go Shock at the climbers picking their way up on pure friction.
