AIBU to ask my neighbours to remove a cable on our roof?

We have just noticed that our new neighbours have run a cable from our TV aerial into their house. This would have entailed someone going up on our roof and running the cable along the whole length of the roof. We live in an old cottage and have had some leaks from our roof in the past. My DH has been on the roof and sorted them but now we may well have more slates moved/slipped.

We are now in the position of having to ask them to remove the cable, find out why they did it in the first place without so much as a by your leave, and I want to tell them that if any repairs are required then they will be liable!!

AIBU to think they have been a) cheeky and b) bloody rude? We don't want to fall out with them but I'm not happy to just ignore it.

Thanks for all your thoughts. We went round on Sunday and said we've noticed that there is a cable coming from our aerial into our house.

Her response was "oh, the guy came from 'X Company' to do it and we had some hassle with him, I didn't know he had done that". She says she is going to ring and ask them to come and remove it.

Since they used the same company that we had fit ours a few years ago, it was probably the same guy. (we live in a small community). If nothing is done by Wednesday, I will ring them myself.

They are renting the house and we do have a good relationship with their landlord so if need by we can get him involved.

What is strange about this behaviour is that they came round to check if we minded them putting a whirly washing line up in their back garden a few weeks ago, so they were being considerate then.

Hopefully we can maintain a good relationship with them, our cottage runs at right angles from the back of theirs and another cottage, so our sitting room looks into their back garden. This means we need to go into their garden for clearing our gutters and also for fitting new windows next month. Hopefully it will be sorted out without too much unpleasantness!

There we are. Perfectly reasonable and no coppers or choppers necessary.Smile Thanks for updating.

Million2One · 22/08/2016 16:28

That's a good outcome.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 22/08/2016 20:14

That sounds plausible. Hope you can maintain a good relationship, it's not a nice feeling to have beef with people you have live next to!

YelloDraw · 22/08/2016 20:47

So totally reasonable on neighbours part, the company are at fault. Yay for neighbourly relations.

Bollocks they didn't know. Who wouldn't go out and actually have a look at what was replaced. If you noticed from next door, they would have certainly noticed from their property that the cable didn't go from their roof.

Good outcome Mouse got the message across that you aren't puddings without looking for a row .
